Believe they were rainsport 3s Dave. Squeled like no tomorrow when it dried up (which was the only time I got to be in Caseys car).

I have used the Rainsport 3’s in monsoon conditions on track, both at Combe and Mallory, and they were excellent, they kept me on the black stuff, while others were slipping and sliding all over the place or going slower to avoid scary moments. They’re not too bad in the dry either although after about 10 laps I think they are susceptible to overheating a bit.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Finished my first engine change, I have had this PZ tucked away as despite having only 48k it had low compression on the rear rotor. It started and drove with no issues but obviously could not be sold for a good price.
I took a chance on an eBay engine from a scrappie type place on the basis that if it turns out to be crap, I will at least have learnt how to change an engine (lockdown obviously being the ideal time to do such things)
First of all I was happy when it fired up and ran smoothly, then was even happier once it had fully warmed and I did a compression test. The seller claimed the engine had done 38k and it seems they weren’t lying, results were excellent.

Swapped the rear LED lights over from T200 to RR54 over the last couple of days which has been a real test of my electrics abilities as I was removing the towing electrics from the loom plus the indicator repeating LED lights in the rear grills.
Anyway the pain of nothing working was eventually banished and they are now working in all their glory!

I'd be very interested to hear how they compare Dave. I've been so impressed with the 3's in the wet that it's hard to believe they can improve much!

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I came to the conclusion that I could get the wiggle room I needed if I could compress the springs and came up with this scheme that worked a treat in case you find yourself having similar struggles.
The Allen keys compress the spring whilst enabling adjustment of the cable ties which were strong enough to hold them until the bolts were tightened. The ties were then cut and pulled free. Result.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
The sprung section can be a pain, I tend to use Mole grips to help get everything compressed, I try and get everything assembled with the least amount of tension (just get nuts to hold a few threads) get everything in place then pull things up tight once everything's on place

Destroyed mine a bit more. Does anyone have a photo of the back panel so I can see if that hole for the tow bar is standard or has been cut out and plated?

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Today I wanted to check the CAT out, as there's been some rattling going on, and I know its a cheap one that's been put on in the past (god knows when). Looks like it's starting to fail (as expected) with a chunk falling out the back on removal, so its an excuse for an RRP 200 cel when there's money in the bank! Things have gotten hot around that area, as seen by the melted O2 plug. Getting the cheap cat back on was a nightmare as nothing lines up right, and there were exhaust leaks both ends. Got there in the end though.
Also found time to give it a quick wash...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Good try but I need to see the back panel behind the reinforcing crash bar. Mine certainly appears to have a plate surrounding the hole and a lot of welding fillet around the hole which make me suspect it’s not am OE feature!

Hi Chris, if you mean the hole here where the tow bar inserts then the hole is cut out from the sheet steel (think there are two layers at that point too) to fit the towbar, this is what i had to do to fit mine.

Excellent, confirms my suspicions it’s not just a push in do up the bolts! Did you have to weld a plate on just rustfproofed the cut edges?innerlurken wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 12:10 pm

I sprayed waxoil inside as best i could then used an edging strip around the metal, tho i didn't cut out the full rectangle hole, only the L shape for the steel to slide in
