Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Finished installing my new oil cooler lines today - Impressed with the quality I must say. Took me three days on the drive in total, but only because I was being fussy about placement, and doing the 'while I was in there' thing with a few little bits. It's a pretty big project though!
Pulled the plugs to have a look at them too, and it looks like one of my trailing plugs isn't firing - no carbon on it at all, so something is certainly off, plus there was a big hot spot on the relating coil - fingers crossed my new RRP coils and leads show up soon. I've also found that the steering rack is leaking at one end Always something else!!!

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Your absolutely right. I suddenly feel much better about this. Maybe it was residual oil from the (heavily) leaking oil line. Opposite side of the car though, so god knows.
Thank you for pointing that out though! Much appreciated! The brain is not functioning at full capacity during this lockdown...

People have been known to get a bit carried away with the lubrication during periods of isolation.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
It's the opposite side to the UJ , looked like it was coming out the end of the steering arm boot, but toward the rack side. I presume there's grease in there even being an e-rack, so maybe some has leaked out?

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
That's not the release bearing, if it's making the noise with the clutch up, in neutral.
That's just the normal sound of the unloaded gearbox.
It's quieter if the 'box oil is fresh, and the correct Gl-4 grade.
It's noisier if the gearlever shroud is torn underneath and/or you're parked against a wall.
A noisy release bearing is with the clutch held down.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Release bearings when worn are usually noisy under load ie when you put the clutch pedal down and basically the box is noisy because its the gears turning when being driven by the engine and in effect rattling then when you disengage the clutch it stops, the RX-8 is known to be a bit noisy.

Offside front wheel off to lube the UJ, cos, why not?
Whilst in there, let's take a photo of the engine mount and see how it's doing. Well that's disappointing.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Had the same issue so just swapped the mounts out today and also removed and swapped over 4 ARB drop links all with no hassle.
Wheels now back on both cars ready to swap them round tomorrow and T200 will go back up on stands and start to be stripped out.
I think a Kathy is of the mind that now they are both on the ground that I will be spending less time out there, wrong!!!

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Busy couple of days getting stuck into the car.
Front off, any rust removed, luckily it was all surface stuff, undersealed and reassembled, a bit engine bay tarting up as I had some bits knocking about.
One headlight separated and silvers bit sprayed satin black, then lacquered before reassembly, I'm pretty happy with it, but the lenses appear to have some sort of damage which looks like crazing.
Recaro seats played with until I broke my drill bits trying to get the old mounts off, they were very old to be fair, once they are apart fully I can see how I'm going to get them in the car at the right height.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Started doing some body/paint repair work, stone chips, scratches and storage damage, bit of filling and sanding, high build primer, next step, remove the bumper, sand then base coats, followed by several clear coats, wet sand and polish, at least I have plenty of time to work on this.

I'm not sure which version of RainSports Casey was running around a very wet Three Sisters but I was very impressed by how hard he could lean on them - especially from the passenger seat
