Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Spent an excellent day spannering with 30405, and now I have a beautiful PZ backbox (courtesy of the care of ScottyPZ) - and confirmed (if minor) flameage, and the car now picks up revs like it's going out of fashion.
Yet another day where my membership to the club repaid itself twice over.

Thanks Chris. I got the Konig Easy-Fit CU-10. Needed something requiring minimal arch clearance and that self tightens (because I'm done with fighting with chains halfway up a mountain in the freezing dark). They're well made and although not quite as quick to fit as the video suggests (the vehicle in that video has huge arch clearance), I had them on in 5 mins which is much better than classic chains. They have bumpers to protect the wheels too. It looks likely that I'll have to use them on an upcoming trip in which case I'll post up a mini review.

Took the car out to see how loud the RRP cat is and quite loud when going up the gears but OK when cruising along also no complaints from the boss

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Air pump delete day today.
First thing was to check that I could actually remove the nuts holding the air feed to the exhaust manifold. Luckily they loosened with no real force.
I hadn't bought a blanking plate so out came the grinder and Piller drill and some sheet. Copied the shape (close but not exact) measured the holes. 7mm hole and 43mm from the inner edge to the other. That gave me 50mm between hole centers.
Drilled the holes. Cut out the shape.
Whipped up a plate.
Next, removed the air pump and valve. Fed the line from the solenoid and attached it onto the nipple on the SSV actuator ( the dreaded tapping noise cause (one of em) no more clacking
viewtopic.php?t=79722
I also found another possible cause of the rattle is where the bar is attached to the actuator via the c-clip. There's a little bit of play in there too. I think a nylon washer to reduce the play would fix that.
Anyhoo, Repositioned the fuel pump resistor and mounted the barometer.
Tidied up and done
All in all it could've taken less time but I wasn't in a hurry. 10-2pm 4hrs total with many chats, coffees and tripping over crap in my garage.
I love this dudes videos. I can't stop hearing "and take it off" in my head
Now to some real work. Mopping the floors in the house
PS and it didn't rain again!

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Pulled the R3 out the garage, spent a couple of hours washing and waxing the gal, fitted a new battery - I fit a new Varta E23 every year - checked and corrected the tyre pressures,as they always lose a bit during hibernation, then took her for a 30 mile run...and fell in love all over again. Been seriously considering putting her up for sale, but now I'm really torn..

Why the jaffing heck do you buy a new battery every year?! That's hideously bad for the environment. I appreciate this is a forum of RX8 owners, some running decats, but how fecking wasteful is a new battery every year?!?!SeeJay wrote: ↑Sun Mar 08, 2020 8:36 pmPulled the R3 out the garage, spent a couple of hours washing and waxing the gal, fitted a new battery - I fit a new Varta E23 every year - checked and corrected the tyre pressures,as they always lose a bit during hibernation, then took her for a 30 mile run...and fell in love all over again. Just disconnect it over winter or get a trickle charger...

Thanks for renewing Duncan. For some reason I'm currently seeing a number of failed delivery responses when I send emails for renewals and new members. Hopefully normal service will be resumed shortly.
