For some reason the drivers front calliper is still a tad sticky compared to the other very free moving slide pins. Going to guess theres a build up of old grease in the bores that needs properly cleaned out. Sadly don't have anything to do that with so I just put them back together for now. Also think I need new slide pins all round as well before I put them on the car.

Also side note, thats not a bottle of oil. I stole some brake cleaner from my mechanic and thats the only bottle that was kicking about at the time. :p

Pretty sure if I did that on my dining table you'd find bits of me splattered across the Westcountry.

EDIT - HA, not quick enough!

Ahah. When I told my mum I was going to do it she just said "Why not do it outside like in one of the sheds". Ah yes... One of the sheds that has absolutely 0 work level benches in it... Or the other one that has aspestos roof literally crumbling everywhere... She probably won't even notice a difference seeing as the table is clean again now. :p

Also received my solar trickle charger today... To discover that the provided battery clamp leads barely go reach across the engine bay.. Safe to say thats an immediate email to their support.

And noticed that my rear lights are getting a bit condensationed up as well whilst the cars sitting. Hm..

Picked up one of these today, got it on charge at the moment. Anyone else got one or used one before? its a hefty bit of kit, should do the job when/if required.

I've got a similar thing I bought in a group buy on here 10 years ago.
Still working well and fired-up the Skoda last week, even though it's battery was too flat to operate the central locking.

Fitted a new Koyo expansion tank cap after discovering that the current cap doesn't' seat on the base of the filler neck its about a cm short! Purchased an HKS cap from ECP but whilst that was closer it still did not reach the base of the neck to seal.
The yellow tape on the paper clip shows depth of the filler neck from the rim to the seal seat compared to seal position on the caps.
Clive was in work on Sunday and measured the caps he had in stock and the KOYORAD one was just a fraction longer than the others and it arrived in the post today.
Excellent service again from Racing Beats main slave!

Opened a bottle of cataclean and turned my RX-8 into a beep test machine for about 30 miles :D

Though I have found that it really doesn't want to go into 2nd gear from any gear at any rpm when the box is hot. 1st gets a bit clunky too.

I know I need to do the clutch fluid, but getting the brakes sorted out has been drinking all of the brake fluid I'm buying. The more I learn about this car the more I feel it's had good parts thrown at it but not had the full attention it deserved :(.

You might want to check your clutch peddle free play as well (the distance from pressing the peddle, to feeling resistance, should be about 1/2 inch (or 13mm for those that don't know what an inch is) this will affect how much movement there is on the actual clutch (it's a pain to get to, but takes a few minutes)

PaulAV, So I've checked and there seems to be about 10-15mm of free play at the pedal. Though the biting point seems very low so maybe new clutch time?

qwakers, As of a few weeks ago MT90, putting that in made the changes smoother for the most part. This is the first time I've really got everything really hot since I put MT90 in (am I the only person who types MT 09?)

If the bite is really low, chances are your clutch is fine it's probably more likely to be an hydraulic issue, especially if its worse when hot, it's common, if your clutch was on the way out your clutch bite would be near the top.

Depending what was used before there may still be some contamination on the friction cones.

Now you have the correct oil running there's a possibility that mechanical and thermal forces might improve things over time.
However, you need to avoid causing any more damage by taking a breath as you pass through neutral on changes when the 'box is hot, and even consider double-declutching.

A couple of members have reported good results from changing the gearbox oil twice, since only about 80% gets changed each time and a double change results in a 96% replacement and a lot more of the contamination flushed away..

For others reading this, the problem is unique to the Series 1 6-speed box.
It doesn't apply to the 5-speed, while the R3 6-speed has its own issues with synchros.

Due to the Evora's awful gear change, I've got used to tapping the box out of gear letting it centre & then moving it to the correct gear. Hardly a fast change but gives the 'box plenty of time.

Just for fun I tried the Rolls Royce trick of balancing a coin on the engine while running, what can I say, not even a wobble.

On the RX-8 could worn engine mounts cause this issue? I know on one of my previous cars the same thing happened on 5th/6th if the driver's side rear engine mount went soft.
