Finally fitted a new battery, terminals and connector for a float charger.
Hopefully this will keep the battery charged.

Fitted 5mm thick rubber floor mats now that the car will be a family daily again. Woah the rubber scent is strong, smells like a bondage clothing store in there now. Have left it with the windows open and hopefully that'll clear it in a few days.
Also just lost the back end and went sideways on a roundabout at low speed/revs. Really hope these new tyres will grip better in the summer than they are in the cold. Fiddled with the tyre pressures in the meantime to try to improve them a bit.

Just had new tyres fitted to mine and the backend is slippy, traction control cutting in on the rear, hope they settle down once scrubbed a bit.

It's a special feeling having her back full-time. I'm a lucky man. Definitely making the most of it
It's the worst this time of year when it's cold and greasy and rarely properly wet. Sticking a couple of bags of gravel in the boot might help the rears bite until the coating wears off.

Keeping the fuel tank full can also help, but don't forget, that's also angular momentum when it does swing out

Just switch the DSC off, find a roundabout and have a play; the coating will magically disappear; job done.

Ha ha, mine did this with new Falkens on the rear - they were so fresh the garage smelled rubbery for a couple of weeks . Thought I'd made a massive error, but they were great once scrubbed in

Can confirm Ranjan's suggested method worked on my new Eagle F1's, as my colleagues taking a ride in the back of the car will attest.

Took my battery over to my mechanics to have it checked/charged since I didnt get a trickle charger on it before I went away. Seeing if it charges and holds charge or not... Possibly has a dead cell.

Do you reckon a rx8 would manage the Mongol Rally?Ainmhidh wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2018 12:03 pmI learned to drive in a couple of Micras (driving instructor and mother's car), and my cousin used a nine year old one for the Mongol Rally in 2013 - drove it from London through Europe, Kazakhstan, into Turkmenistan to see "The Gate to Hell"
and on to Mongolia. No major problems. Just not as much fun as an 8!
I'm seriously considering it at the moment. I've got my eye on one with 70,000 miles on it and in good condition. I'd beef it up, raise the suspension a fair bit, put some forest rally tires on it, and hopefully get some engine work done on it by mazda to bulletproof it. My only worry would be if something broke like a blown apex seal or something, no one out there would be able to work on it and that'd be the rally over. :/
Also it might not like driving for 10 hours a day every day for 40 or 50 days :/

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Turns out Honkytonk should lock himself out of his ebay account before drinking a whole bottle of wine, as these arrived today and I don't remember ordering them.
I suppose I just need a new set of plastic caps to go with them, as mine are a bit ratty, which is presumably why bottle-of-wine-Honkytonk thought he needed these. I really hope the caps on the PZ wheels are 60mm...
I suppose paying £45/piece for original PZ centre caps(!) is a bit steep when these were £15 for 4, plus a fiver for some replacement plastic caps.
(mine may be available for purchase soon at the very reasonable price of £45... )

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I sent off my Monoflex Coilover yesterday via Parce2 Go and it arrived at TEIN this morning.
I was expecting a none too cheap quote as the click adjuster had seized and snapped down in the shaft plus 3 out of the 4 pillow ball bolts had sheared and being set with negative preload, ie" 2cm free play, there was slight wear damage to the spring seats. The unit has been on the car since 2008 and does look its age, no rust on the body even though the paint has flaked off so it just shows that the extra detail by TEIN of plating the steel body really pays off.
So I received a call from Yukiko this afternoon advising that the engineers had successfully removed the broken adjuster and the three sheered stud remnants, tested the damper operation on their test rig and the damping and spring were within tolerance. I had previously purchased the click adjuster at about £10 and had sent that back with the unit.
All the above work was done gratis and all I need to pay is the £10 carriage to ship the unit back to me.
Exemplary service from them on a 10+ year old product that has covered c30k miles.

Doubtful given my workload and that the unit may not have been despatched today, but fingers crossed Yukiko continued the brilliant service and got it away.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Today I've been clearing a garage and it's amazing what you can fit in an RX8 when you try. All the parts of a door frame made of 8 inch wide boards, 4 lengths of 2 by 2 all over 2 m long plus half a dozen more lengths of the same and some more boards and a rubbish sack and a big plastic box. Amazing!
I'd normally used the family estate car but it's not available.
