Thats odd. But good to know Dan! Next time my cars on the road itll be under modified insurance so agreed value would be sweet... Since I value the shell at about 1200~ or so... Which to me is more important than the engine currently in it.

Trinity Lane is the AV insurer via Adrian Flux. It's £50 extra.
Well worth it for a £5,000+ valuation vs book value of 4/5ths of f#!% all if it gets totaled by a 'sorry, I didn't see you' muppet

When I tried Lancaster, they said they don't have Trinity on their panel and none of their AV insurers would do it as car not old enough and/or car not worth enough. Which was all a bit bizarre!

I can explain it, but I can't understand it for you.

The car not being "worth enough" shouldn't matter... Surely? AV would logically be applicable to any and all vehicles... Old enough? Ehhh I guess in the case of classic insurance then maybe but normal AV? Seems odd... Not bad though. Ill be doing the same for sure when my car gets back on the road. Hopefully it won't require selling an organ due to my age/low no claims.

What you value it at, and what the insurer values it at are two different things.

If it isn't special in any discernible way (not meant as any offence, but if it isn't a special edition or anything like that) you may struggle to justify that valuation to an insurer.

Juey's, for example, is a modified JDM import that - to replace - would cost him many pounds. It's a special colour, a special edition, and it's a JDM auto converted to a manual.

You may find that, as Juey has said above, you can't get an agreed value on a boggo RX8.

Yeah I imagine I'd struggle probably. But with enough modifications and an engine rebuild I'd argue the point till I'm blue in the face.

The great advantage of AV is having that argument up front, while the car is still around and in a state to be inspected, rather than after the event when it could be a mangled or burnt-out wreck, or just disappeared.

It's not just the pay-out on total lose, it also prevents the insurer just writing the car off just because it's got a scrape/dent down a couple of body panels; this is currently the biggest risk given the cost of body shop repairs and the standard book value.

Some insurers will give you the option of buying back the remains after a write-off, but some specifically don't, as part of their "anti-fraud" processes.

Then you are stuck with lovely Cat whatever write off insurance for some minor body work which imo is stupid. And the "antifraud" thing still makes no sense to me.

Quick question (wasn’t worth opening a new thread I don’t think)

Is it common the have steam coming from the vents at the front...?

Not common, though at this time of year there is plenty of moisture for a hot engine to turn in to steam??

You need to determine where the steam is coming from.

A bunch of wet leaves caught underneath and being dried off by the heat from the oil cooler hoses, won't be a problem.

A pin-hole in the radiator/coolant pipework would be a major issue.

She will only have to worry when she smells burning and smoke Image steam isn't too bad unless as people have said the rad had a hole in it.

I was forever having this with my Pulsar as the top mount intercooler would harbour water

Not actually done anything with the 8 since I took it off the road last week! However, had some wood delivered today so I can make the frame for my shed to put it in for winter! Will be getting some more jack stands too so I can take all 4 wheels off, the wheel liners as well and properly wash everywhere before the shed gets finished!

As others said keep an eye on your fluids just in case you have a leak. But it's normal when water hits your rad or is on the oil coolers. Wash the oil coolers when they're warm in the winter and steam will billow off them. Makes the car look like a sleeping dragon with smokey nostrils.

Probably a good reminder to avoid standing water when possible, who knows what's in it that will cling to/dent the metal.

It's even on both sides so doubt it's a leak but thought i'd best check
