Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Today I've noticed that I have an oil leak.
There's an obvious coat of oil on the nearside front suspension arm, part of the steering rack concertina gaiter, and on the inside of the nearside wheel arch.
I know I have a rusty sump and I'm intending to replace that; but also I have rusty oil cooler pipes.
I don't do jobs like this but I'm wondering if they need to be done by somebody experienced in working with RX8s or can they be done by my local garage?
I'd happily use Big Pete's services again, but he's one hell of a trek away!

If this is the oil cooler pipes then don't drive the car.
Any weeping of these pipes is the sign of imminent total failure, with the contents of the sump hitting the road, just in front of your nearside tyres, before the engine is damaged by lack of lubrication.
Lots, and lots, of previous discussions on here regarding options for getting these replaced

Thanks for the stern warning!
I'll postpone that shopping trip I was about to make.
Thanks for the link.
My question stands regarding the need for expert attention.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
i would ask a specialist to either recover the car and repair it or ask one of the mobile rx8 specialists to come to you to fix it, whilst in theory any garage can do it, i wouldnt trust just anyone...

As both I and the car are in West Wales that might be a problem!

Ok, I'll contact him, to find out if he would like a long trip.
But I had better check where the problem lies first.
And I do have an experienced garage nearby, and it's downhill all the way.

Maybe a stupid question , it’s very informative and seems perfect . More of a question to everyone . If this is an au photo , are the regs similar across motorsport Generally in similar countries ? I don’t have a clue ?

This gives some great info on safety strap positioning etc.
It’s from Tillett seats who certainly know their stuff.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I changed the belts (personal note: go for a slightly longer 825 alternator belt next time) and finally removed the K&N Typhoon
and replaced it with a stock airbox sourced ages ago from bigpete and a K&N panel filter. Also cleaned the MAF, air meshes, throttle body and resonator. Only took me 3 years to get around to it!
And I miss the sound! The engine is barely audible now which is a bit sad. I used to rev match on track based on the engine pitch, so that'll need rethinking. Am resisting the urge to swap the Typhoon back by telling myself that this is better for engine health. Although pedestrians and cyclists can no longer hear me coming a mile away and dive for cover... so sucks for them.
Am happy though that I managed to do it without knowing what I was doing and didn't snap anything or break a vacuum hose and the belt tensions both seem good for now. So is nice to have achieved something new (to me anyway).

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Good call, I need to find one to hear in person. I'll add it to the Autumn cost list after the coils/leads I've just bought, getting the wheels refurbed, new tyres this month, and having the car rust proofed.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Today I have ordered a new battery, Varta E23, As I did a quick OBD check and the before cranking the engine the voltage was in the region of 11.6ish? I'm surprised it starts at all at that level, but it does! went up to 13.6 when engine was running. Anyway, new battery on its way!
Tomorrow, I have a local guy coming round to make my headlights clear again! £45 for the pair. I'll let you know how he gets on!

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
The broken plastic bit on the air hose is called the elbow joint. I bought 2 just last week. Cheapest place to buy them new is your local dealership for £10 each incl VAT. The part number is in the electronic parts catalogue.
Or Essex Rotary sell them used for a fiver (plus postage so you may as well buy them new) or as shroom said try bigpete.
