While I was at work Luke Murdoch came around and under the beating sun fitted my new Tein suspension, new drop links, replaced a front caliper which was sticking, new front discs (grooved) and brembo pads. He identified a irritating squeak as the decat support rubbing and low and behold he was right, a bit of heat and violence and that has been remedied too. His work is excellent and he is a nice chap. The car feels like new!

So with my rev issue becoming more and more prominent I'm pretty certain it's the clutch going and not something else... Since all the other checks I've done have seemed fine!

Thanks Dave. Yeah everyone at the repairer has looked at me confused whenever I've suggested that that the energy could have been transferred further along the car... so it's worth checking beyond the body work. Nice to know I'm not going crazy... they're just not very good. Will be very careful to check their work when it comes back. Probably take a trip to see bigpete.
Some good advice from Dave there. I bought an R3 that was a CAT D and had received rear end damage. It had dutifully been repaired and looked like nothing had every happened.

Turns out the rear subframe was bent and the diff had received a fair chunk of the impact, resulting in the diff getting nice and whiney over time. When it comes back I'd have a good old look underneath at things like the subframe and rear suspension components.

I would also say that it isn't unreasonable to request images from the garage whilst they repair things - although the garage may refuse.

These recall stories remind me of an old motor trade anology based on one night stand.

Two strangers meet and seem to share a common interest
Eventually one persons equipment enters the others facility
Movement takes place, slowly
The 1st parties equipment changes whilst in the 2nds facilities
The 2nd party is satisfied with what they have done
The 1st party remove his equipment and departs feeling happy
Soon however the 1st parties equipment develops an issue

The resulting that instead of pleasant memories of the encounter the 1st party just feels they have been f***** about rather than loved.

today i've been bouncing around a dealer networks phone system from main vospers contact center to exeter, truro and plymouth trying to order a part... and only exeter have been contactable at all.... and haven't called me back. eventually got through to plymouth (whilst writing this!) who DID call me back after locating the part.... and are happy to order it, it will be in friday (would have had it tomorrow if they had answered the phone at 10am when i tried to call them first!) and apologised profusely, the dealers phone systems have been broken all day (hence i kept getting diverted to the main contact center...)

bloody dealers, how can we expect them to fix our cars (recalls etc) if they cant even keep their phones going!

on another note, with nothing else left to do, i machine polished the VR rx8, which got most of the black spots off it (still no idea what they are but stubborn isn't the word!) wired in the warning light so the coolant level light also works for oil level now. and watched a couple of movies.

all in all, not a bad day off.

Mine has them fitted so you can take a look at them at the next Shropshire meet if that's helpful at all.

Pulled about 3 bales worth of hay out of the front grille before I left for work, after following a hay lorry home last night. Also admired my beading!

Got the struts off ebay, search for gas struts 55cm long, they come with m8 and m6 ball bolts.
Use the middle nut holding the wing in place, and other end locates at bonnet brackets. There is a square hole you can fasten strut too.

I wish we could still get the OEM gas struts. But I was considering just getting some struts and a rivnut and doing something similar to the OEM method. Wonder if I can pull that off.

Had handbrake come off on me...
Pulled it up didn't quite click in properly and sprung back down.
Didn't roll far as was mm off the car in front any way.

Think I need to adjust it Anyway as pulls up long way.
Left her in gear just in case. 😉

Cheers! Had a little look a while back on eBay but the ones that immediately came up on search were £50+ so I had second thoughts. Good to know what I'm looking for now!

'sigh' I know, I long for the OEM style on everything where possible. There are some available on the bay for about £25+postage for the pair.

Handbrake adjustment is dead easy, just needs a 10mm deep socket.
Access is through the little removable section inside the cubby in the centre console.

Just be careful when you remove the socket, as they have a habit of catching on the edge of the hole and falling down inside.
I've found 3x 10mm deep sockets in various members cars when removing the centre console for different jobs #-o

Oh cool not too pricey. I need to find the instructions for installing the OEM struts so I can get a decent idea of where I'd want to rivnut. Mostly I want to do things this way due to avoiding bonnet bulge and the hinges bending over time.
