Had to go and have family pictures taken apparently. I got a lovely 60-80 mile drive out of it which is probably the best part seeing as the weather is dry and its sunny. Perfect for breaking in my Falkens.

Oh dear! Was actually surprised at how nice it was. Gentle breeze, low cloud coverage. Perfect driving weather. On my way home however I had a police van stuck on my backside for a good 5 or so minutes.. And watched 3 other patrol vehicles go the other way so I was trying to behave as much as possible.

Thanks Chris, It's had a few bits done to improve "driveability", but kept it looking standard, aside from the (slightly too low) H&R sports springs (45mm drop)...have to avoid any type of traffic calming humps.

Our esteemed spin doc Phil Bate, had those springs on his Silver car - sadly now to be no more - but don't know how he dealt with speed bumps..

My cars lowered by about 25mm allegedy.. And everything is a nightmare to deal with if its more than 2 leaves stacked on top of each other. Nevermind 45mm! The underside of my poor car shows a sad story of scrapes and knocks from before I owned it. Will be going back up 5mm-7.5mm~ or maybe even 10mm yet to decide. Hoping thatll stop it catching everywhere.

Published figures for lowering springs are compared with "Mazda Standard Suspension" as fitted in the US and JDM.

All UK 8s came with Mazda Sports Suspension so the difference is much less.

Last time I worked on a members car that was having trouble over road humps we found that both rear springs had cracked.

I have no clue what stock height would be on an 8 since mine came with coilovers from the get go. But I feel like I might end up back to being pretty close to it at least.

After a couple of days puzzling over a strong knock which moved around the car from front to back and side to side, was not bump in the road dependent, throttle on / off dependent etc: ie: impossible to actually make happen and also was a different noise to a suspension or bush knock. More like something breaking loose as you could also just feel it to, but how could that be if it was re-occurring?

Then today when driving in the rain the noise was not present! Aha! Now I think I know what it is most likely to be, but to have the same noise front and rear if I am right makes it even more weird.

What do you think it could be?

Well pleased with the result too funny how a bit of warm sun makes something far easier, even my car nut neighbor said how good they looked.

Had Luke round to fit:
  • New Essex Rotary brake lines (more on that later)
  • New front EBC discs (cos I've used before and like them)
  • New pads (thanks to Chris's group buy)
  • Refurbished and painted calipers thanks to SeriousSam
So, all went fairly ok. Biggest issue was the near side front brake line. Old one bodged on by (I assume) previous owner which was seized solid to the hard line, so no joy there. Also both sides clip retainers non-existent which explains why the previous lines where cabled tied on. So looks like I'm gonna need new upper arms at some point, and a replacement hard-line ](*,)

Usual great service from Luke obviously :thumright:

Next to figure out why I get p301 codes every now and then even though performance wise there are no issues :-k

Potentially sold it !!

A friend of a friend was chatting about interest in purchasing one and my mate did a wonderful sales pitch and following taking said chap on a spirited drive he was sold, the noise was what got him hooked. Insurance is astronomical for him but hes committed to the cause lol.

Will be very sad to see it go but it was the plan was to sell later in the year due to wanting to get something I've always wanted and cant turn down an offer when it turns up. I will still lurk on the forum as I am nosey and am following some peoples progress and you never know I may miss the rotary bug.
