Your best bet is just to ensure that everything, engine, transmission, brakes and running gear, is in top condition.

I'd like to know more about the options offered through remapping.
And :whathesaid: is clearly a first priority.

Hmm! Think I may have muddled threads as I read a post where it said after the RR crackle map the mpg had got worse. Not your post clearly.

What kind of expectations do you have in mind by the way?

It's all good having a nice list of things that could improve things, but if they're going to cost you an arm and a leg to only mariginally improve mpg by 3%, HC by 10ppm and CO by 0.05% (numbers pulled outta ma butt) ... then is that time / money well spent? With both being a limited resource, I wouldn't be surprised if the efforts put into improving what is fundamentally always going to be an absolute belcher of an engine would be more effectively directed on other pursuits to 'offset' any guilt etc. Better insulate your loft yada yada.

Numbers I've no real idea.
I think I kicked off saying what were the possibilities of doing something like this.
If I could trade 10% of power output for a 15% fuel economy gain, for the low hundreds cost that would probably be worth it.
Assuming that trade is not defying the laws of physics!

I wouldn't expect that 15% gain all the time but on light throttle cruising.

My fuel consumption improved by at least 10% when I fitted the Racing Beat Ram Scoop.

Trouble is I also fitted new plugs, leads and coils at the same time, so can't be sure what made the difference

At an educated guess how much of that 10% would you attribute to the scoop?

Took delivery of it. Having sold my black R3 I was planning to look out for another next spring/summer, but then Nutty mentioned on the forum he had a silver 59 plate with low comp he would let go for a sensible price....

So, assuming impatience doesn’t get the better of me again, it’s going to be sat in a barn for a few months now whilst I get some funds together for a rebuild and some other bits to get it how I want it.

+1 easiest and cheapest to break a window.

How depressing was the result?

Re: key in boot. I have a spare at home, but my sister wanted jump leads which, of course, are in the boot. And I wanted to go for a drive to test something out but that'll have to wait until tomorrow. Drove the Clio home instead.

Well, I was prepared for it to be low after reading plenty on here, so it wasn't too depressing...
The number of 157 at the wheels doesn't really mean a lot at the moment, but its just a base number for me to work from... Unless anyone else on here has had a run done at EST in Hailsham to compare...?

Fingers crossed that I can get the number to go up from here though moving forward...!

Omg, using a dyno properly for before/after comparisons rather than as a globally accurate measurement to fret over?

And I agreed with Chris yesterday.
What a week :D

As long as you can overlay/stretch it over some known good figures and the shape isn't totally squiffy then happy days.

Yeah I don't car what the actual number is. When I change the way something looks, my eyes tell me if it's better or worse. When I change the way something sounds, my ears tell me if its better or worse. When I change performance parts, the dyno at EST is going to tell me if its better or worse... Thats how I think of it...

......Although there is a slight crossover when it comes to exhausts I suppose...... :-k I'll have to weigh up the two if there's a discrepancy between sound and performance improvements and pick what I care about more.... :P maybe this isn't going to be as simple as I hoped...........

The dyno they use is a Maha LPS 3000... don't know if the same model of dyno in differnent shops would yield the same results, surely they'd be pretty close......?

Crawled it around central London then M25 traffic for about 6 hours. Not fun with the terrible state of the roads (west London in particular) and awful traffic. My car hates stop/starts and crawling. It's not fair on a machine designed to rev.

Finally bit the bullet and applied to lease an EV. Feel a bit soul crushed as I love piloting this car daily. But the RX8 deserves better than what town driving has become.
