Left it broken and dejected at Heathrow again while I headed to LA for work where I picked up THIS Dodge Challenger RT. This Challenger has a 5.7L V8 HEMI and managed an impressive average of 6mpg over 30 miles today, smokes rear tyres as if to hide our escape and I can confirm loves jumps... but not so much the landings. I got a sore back tonight.

Unlike my 8 it is NOT pissing oil out the diff and does change gear smoothly.

Off to take photos of the Malibu fires tomorrow. We'll see how good the AC is.

Last night I bought hks single exit and was given rr coils and cables plus some other bits as a present
I fit the coils this morning cuz I get waken up at 4 40 am from the guy who bought mazdaspeed wheels from me to collect them he told me will come before work I said 6 to 7 am but suprise before 5 am.
Long story short fitting the spare set of rr coils on mine confirm to me my previous set is faulty no more death spot and I use the glow tester all 4 glow nicely
Happy days rex back on the road

After Oulton Park the brakes seem to have lost some "bite" so I did some investigating this morning and found the DS inner brake pad was worn at an angle suggesting a stuck slider and low and behold the top pin was gummed solid! Cue 30 minutes of effort to remove it as the rubber had swollen and was slipping up the shoulder. Two new pin kits ordered + silicone grease so job is now stopped until they arrive.

Completed the thousand mile drive to work! Now to let rex hibernate over the winter in the garage...

Note, I spent around ten hours driving yesterday(from one side of France to the other and then some) and the car was flawless up and down the mountains. Plenty of fun on the winter tyres!

Had my car professionally debadged, I did it myself a while back with a Mazda touchup pen but it never looked great. I watched a spot repair guy last month spend a while repairing a neighbours car (metallic silver Volvo) that had been swiped across two panels and the end result looked mint so I asked him to do mine.

Took longer than expected as he sanded it back to the metal

Well, I've been enjoying my RX8 for nearly a month now - so, today, to help make sure I can continue to enjoy it through the winter, I treated it to a full fluids and filters service - Luke at Murdoch's Rotary Specialist reluctantly skipped church (cough) and made a Sunday house-call to do the work!

ImageImage
ImageImage

In between coffee-making duties, I kept myself busy with the T-Cut, Auto Glym and elbow-grease - end result being a Rex that's almost as fresh on the outside as it now is on the inside.

Genuinely, very impressed at how much more enjoyable my Rex is to drive following Luke's 'reset service'... smoother gear-changes and a more responsive engine leave it feeling less restricted, more eager. And - another bonus - a compression test revealed higher figures today than when we'd tested it on the sales forecourt a month ago! :)

Installed a Sylfex Auxmod into the radio, thought I was screwed with v10.01 but works excellently

Did take far longer than I would have thought to pull the plugs out the back of the radio initially though, tricky things

After the low compression news yesterday I took my reluctant to start car down to Shaftesbury for the excellent Dorset meet covering some 200 miles of A & B roads with several spirited sections and the car ran faultlessly, pulling hard and smoothly!
It even started better today than yesterday.
What an enigma these cars are!

Decided to run OBD Fusion app on the way home today to see what data it logged and the results are in the excel spreadsheet below.
All calculated from ECU data feeds and I am pretty sure I have the correct vehicle parameters entered.
Comments welcome from those who know how to interpret this sort of data.

Another job done for the day.

Fitted a replacement, oil cooler pipe to the left side today, after it decided to dump itself on my drive on Sunday morning. :(
Luckily I had left it idle first - then as I drove off I noticed the oil lamp permanently illuminated.
So I switched the engine off, checked the level - dropped below minimum.
As I topped it up - and checked underneath - I notice the leak from the left hand front underside.
I knew then it was a cooler pipe or cooler concern.

All done and fixed now though! :)

Next job are the rear sills - as appears to be the usual for these.
Then start planning to replace the other cooler pipes at some point.
