Nice drop links xDnjkmr wrote: ↑Mon Oct 15, 2018 6:41 pmChanged the drop links again.
Was never quite happy with the cheapo ebay ones I put on last year as I could never get them tight enough and they clunked a bit after a while as they moved about. Got these japspeed ones off a fellow member, which look a lot more robust.
Also did a third oil and filter change in a year / 3000 miles and 3 track days. I thought the old oil looked quite clean on the dipstick but it was definitely a lot darker than the new fresh golden x-flow oil I put in.
Next job is to brighten up the headlights with a refresh kit.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Started work today on an easy on-off funnel for the K&N Typhoon, to route the bumper ducting directly to the cone. For potential use during hot days on road and track.
A friend and I started by measuring up and working out airflow/surface area differences between the Typhoon relative to the stock intake. Then more maths arrived and my brain melted and it seemed like too much hard work. So we're just going to make it as designed. Stick it on and see what happens. What could go wrong...

Try and make sure your get a post filter wire mesh in there otherwise you may experience poor running due to turbulence in the airflow

Since I am the worlds worst DIYer I am especially chuffed at my efforts to fit the PZ spoiler to the boot lid. All completed within an hour; could not believe how easy it all fitted together.
Next project engine rebuild; how hard could it be!

I have done this mod and lowered my seat at the rear by about 1" but it's still not enough for me at 6' 3" once I have a helmet on!

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I would like to drive a RX8 on Ohlins just to see how good they really are. I hear only good things about them.
Very pleased with my Tein Monosports but still intrigued by Ohlins.

I drove a mk3 mx5 race car on ohlins it was fantastic it had a 231 streetport init too. Back to back comparison with my westy made the Westy feel very agricultural...but the Westy was noticably quicker so not all lost.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I was with a guy who builds custom suspension for race caterhams a few weeks back , everything he used was ohlins. He looked at the RX8 set up for me , in particular the ohlins off the shelf for the car . He said they were real good value for money , if he were to build them with that spec would cost around 3.5 K . He was also very interested in the tein edfc functionality as he supplied something similar but charges around 6 K for his and an average 15k for the suspension he builds . Another world I guess

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
When you think that just 3 years ago I fitted Ohlins to my old RX8 for just £1770 (fully fitted) and these units are fully rebuildable and whose internals were streets above any of the competition; well, the word “bargain” comes to mind!
Performance was superb but needed time setting up.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Bit more diagnosing today on apv fault, disconnect ecu and apv motor, cables seem fine, no short to ground, no short across power supply.
Plug ecu in, 1 socket from ecu gives continuity that changes to voltage when ignition is on(ranging from 2.6-3.6 volts), other socket gives continuity even with ignition on (resistance just changes) suggests to me that ecu is at fault
Bugger, was hoping it was a wiring issue.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I don't think I would be able to bring myself to spend over twice the value of the car on suspension no matter how good it may be.
On the same subject I raised my ride height today as gone from 45 to 40 sidewall tyres and also have 70kg of audio in the boot. Didn't like the amount of rust on them so coated with some ACF50 till winter's over then I'll tackle the rust properly.
