If the cooling was that marginal - like thrashing a highly tuned Transit across the desert - then it could make a difference.

However, our cars have twin oil coolers for marketing rather than engineering reasons*, and the airflow through the radiator shouldn't be an issue either.

Other than a major mechanical issue, coolant over-heating is much more likely to be caused by inappropriate placement of the front numberplate [-X or loss of the rubber seals that should prevent the airflow from bypassing the radiator core.

Looking at the size of the wire and holes then I would guess you could be looking at a c25% reduction in the open area.

Having been involved with static testing of jet engines, often with mesh "safety screens" in the early days, I can advise that the reduction in airflow is actually more than the simple ratio between the wires and the holes.

We did a lot of work with Rolls Royce developing domed screens, where the total area of the holes was far greater than the open intake, and power above mid-throttle was still reduced.

However, I still believe that the benefits of protecting our oil cooler and radiator (actually the a/c heat-exchange) core, outweighs the reduction in airflow, unless you choose a mesh with too solid a construction.

Snagged some spares for the PZ today.

In other news, car taxed and MoT'd, my bank account lighter by about £1,000 (damn you unnecessarily expensive road fund license and carbonfibre-effect braided brake pipes)!Image

Also fitted an rb grill for the ac condenser it’s been on the shelf for a year so I thought I would fit it.

Cheers, the left headlight is in direct sunlight so it looks a bit odd.

Was pulled by the police a couple of months back and they went over my car (ANPR showed no insurance and I had to prove I had the mods declared) but they didn't dwell on the front numberplate.
Bought it as a show plate via eBay, it's the correct size and spacing, dunno if it would pass the MOT as it doesn't have the BS mark, has a 3M reflective background.
Annoyingly I didn't align it correctly and it stuck instantly, may redo it at some point, think it maybe best to put on slightly wet with perhaps a drop of washing up liquid so can slide it a bit to get it symmetrical.

I had the same issue when I pout my plate there and certainly the washing up liquid makes it slide and its simples to align. Only issue I had was that when I tried to remove the plate it took the ;lacquer off with it so I recommend warming the plate slightly with hair drier.

Certainly not 2t oil as it looks like I ran my sohn dry on the last outing ........
Just hope that 200 ml of pre mixing in 20 litres of fuel was sufficient not to have harmed the engine .....
Time to dig out what type of oil level indicator I can put on the sohn tank

If you have a sohn fitted you could use a regular oil level sensor (the one the car uses to tell you it's low) and connect it in place of the sump level one.
