I'm pleased to hear you are (more or less) at the end of your saga, Huw.
Could you not take any of the bits need fitting before an MOT along to rotary revs and fit them or indeed have rotary revs to fit them for you# and then you can get it MOT'd and save any costs involved in recovering it to your home area. ?
# it seems to me that they owe you at least a small favour!
Just my two penny worth.
John

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Can you not have Ben give it a pre MOT and if its OK then have it MOTd and then you can just pick it up.Rotary Potato wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 3:40 pmI know the car needs a few bits, and have purchased them & got them here. Now maybe Mr MOT tester might not fail it on them, but I'd rather fit them all prior to putting it in for a test.
I've just been caught out by how long this has taken. I was expecting it to take 2-3 weeks, then I'd have the same to do the work and MOT it. Unfortunately that hasn't been the case, and I don't wanna chance it with some known maybefails ... so most sensible option seems to be to get it recovered here, I do the work and then MOT it. If nothing else, I feel more in control of timescales doing it that way.

Rotary Revs, use a local garage about a mile away. I take mine there everytime. Very good lads who deal with RX8 all the time.
Mine passed yesterday
Ask Ben, he could maybe book it in for you.
Glad you got yer car back.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I'm not going to ask for any favours from Ben. If he felt he owed me a favour, I'm sure he'd have offered something that he felt was appropriate.
All I want is my car back as soon as possible so I can be back in control of timescales again. It's driven me crazy not having any control over when the car would be ready, so even if it's not the most sensible way forward I feel I need to do it for my sanity after all these weeks of waiting.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
When I have the car back Dave.
So today I managed a proper chat with Ben. He thanked me for being so patient. I told him I didn't think I had been that patient, and thought I'd made my displeasure over timescales pretty clear, so can only imagine how badly some of his customers have reacted to things!
In terms of substance, it literally was a single side seal that failed ... everything else on the engine was perfect. Ben also told be that he now doesn't think that anything I did contributed to the failure, and I shouldn't change how I've been topping up the oil. So that's reassuring to know.
Ben is also happy that the car doesn't need a formal running in period, just to take it a little easy for a couple of hundred miles.
Finally, he's sorting me out with bit of an extension on the warrenty - which hopefully I won't need, but always nice to have.
Got a quote for collection of less than £40 more than the cost of collecting the car myself, so that doesn't feel too bad.
All in all, just feeling relieved that the saga is over and hopefully I can start falling in love with the car again.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Great news Huw and I'm happy you have your car back. Even though it took longer than expected, I knew Ben would sort it out.
As your engine racks up a few more miles, please post some updates on how it is running.
Good things come to those who wait!

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Got the car washed, then once home polished the outside with better than wax(which is so easy to apply and gives a resilient coating that beads well) polished up the exhaust tips and cleaned and treated the leather interior, ready for japanese performance show tomorrow, so at least it looks clean and fresh (too many carpark dents as its a daily driver to look good)

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Had to change both my rear wheels as one was completely flat and I wanted to change both as I didn’t want one side with semi-slicks and the other side with a proper road tyre.
Turns out one was dead flat and the other had a screw in! They’ll be getting repaired tomorrow!
Thank you to Nightfire for coming over with a breaker bar, socket set and torque wrench, absolute life saver! I owe you so many beers

Had a call from an old garage - "Are you aware your MOT expires today?"
Me: "Yes"
Garage: "Have you got it booked in elsewhere?"
Me: "No"
Garage: "... Umm... Do you want to book it in with us?"
Me: "No"
Garage: "Are you going to get it MOT'd?"
Me: "No, as it doesn't run"
Cue awkward silence from the guy on the phone
