What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Yorkie, great example of an S1 lookin' the absolute canine undercarriage. And those wheels, schaweeeeet. 8)

Yea thanks for the kind words Image
Bought the car just to thrash around the track as my z3 just wasn't cutting it.
Turned out to be a good buy after fixing a loom fault. Engine seems strong no dreaded hot/cold start issuesImagetested it out at Pembrey end of last summer, drove faultless.
So over the winter gave it some upgrades
Changed the suspension to R3 shocks and arb's with H&R rear springs
Overhauled the brakes
Polly bushed the rear
Four wheel alignment to a modified setting
Decated stock cat and fitted Toyo system
Refurbished the alloys and new tyres
Acquired spare wheels and fitted slicks
Fitted D585's NKG plugs and magnecor leads
And fitted the controversial rear spoiler
Fabricated floor brackets
Fitted seats and harnesses
And not forgetting the blingImageImage

As well as helping mr spiller with his little project, a busy couple of months.

Harnesses feel ok they are fixed into the rear seatbelt anchors so very secure.
Trying to get a rear role cage so they'll be mounted to that hopefully

You're OK with the angle. It's on the limit, and not recommended for use with HANS devices, but is OK for no HANS. I passed scrutineering all last year using the rear seat belt points.

Cheers Pete, only doing Trackdays and spent all my pocket money on the car so nothing left for "armour" lol.

So... it turns out I have now become 16 again. A few lighting gaps to fill but all done with power rails in parallel... not bad for a cripple Image

Finally changed the air filter, coil packs, leads and plugs. I planned to do it a month ago and wish I had, the entire air system was caked in oil... thanks previous owner.

On the plus side, cleaning everything fixed my hotstart issue, seems it was a combination of choking on oil and ancient plugs and coils.

The lights shining through the side vents are pretty damn sexy! :thumright:

I painted my exhaust shrouds today. You'll see from my Avatar pic that they had gone very pale and grey. A little bit of reading found DanBass's Rustoleum recommendation, so I gave that a try.

30 mins prep and about 15 seconds spraying and they look great! Really pleased how they turned out. Good shout Dan!! =D>

Of course that now means I need to spray every other exterior black surface. Even the black bits on my wing mirrors are looking pretty grey! I'll probably draw the line at my tyres.... joke, just in case anyone wants to tell me why that would be a bad idea.

Trekked across London to see an Evolve that's listed on ebay only to find out there's rust on the arches, really annoying as it was a rare one in the lower tax bracket :(

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Post by Harrizone »

Car was fine last Sunday for the meet at Mazda HQ on Friday went to collect the car to go to the Essex meet only to find I had no power steering  and an OBD reader borrowed from Shane at Sun Motors, :thumleft: adjacent to my garage, revealed a DTC B2278 'Steering Torque sensor malfunction which would not clear. A call to Aston at Essex Rotary and he provided me with not one, but two power steering modules, to possibly sort the problem, which I picked up at the Essex meet. :thumleft: So today was spent removing the ECU to access the steering module and replacing mine with each of the borrowed moules to see if this removed the problem. No joy with either of these, so replaced my original and set about removing the battery tray and air box and tray to gain access to the connectors at the torque sensor and the wiring loom. A circuit test gave a 13ohm reading which is within the 12-15ohm spec so all seemed to be in order and pointed to the torque sensor itself. :( Sprayed the connectors and reseated them and put everything back and prepared to park the car up until I could speak again to Aston to try and find a resolve. Lo and behold power steering back again, :-k which is all good but does not reveal why it happened in the first place #-o . Hey Ho RX8 foible strikes again. A vote of thanks to Aston again for being at the end of the phone over a weekend to offer help and advice. :thumright:

Could that connector have been splashed with acid when the battery cracked?

That was my initial thinking, but there was no evidence of that with the upper connectors, which are above and behind the level of the spilt acid, and the connector at the torque sensor and the sensor itself appeared to have missed any of the fan blown acid and were quite clean. Aston has had similar instances where after dismantling the connectors etc. this same fault has magically rectified itself.

Another quirk of the RX8, it's self healing. :^o

Yours is a known problem with the 8 in as much that the UJ gets caked in grot, remedy is to clean off with solvent and lubricate with chain oil or similar.
