Cor, look what you've made me do - out in the cold on a gravel drive, just jacked the car up, took the wheel off and popped the centre cap out
That's the best I can do over the interwebs I reckon...and as I haven't drawn it in CAD, the centreline measuring is all eyeballing

I can send you that one in the photos as I realise it is way better to have one in your hand and measure and double check dimensions / compare against the real thing and measure the bits I've missed - but you'll have to promise to not break it and send it back to me within the next month or so.

I have a spare centre cap that I found a couple of months ago in a car park next to my car - picked it up and headed home to refit it when warmer and lighter then realised I still have all mine! It's a bit dinged and scratched but I'm fairly sure it's at least the same as on the R3's 19" rims. You're welcome to it if you want to PM me an address, save risking zippy's 'live' one in the royal mail?

Actually, now that I've retrieved it and compared it to zippy's photos above it looks like a different tab layout on the back - 4 clip tabs at 12, 3, 6 & 9 o'clock with non-clipping 'walls' filling the spaces between. Probably from a 3 or a 6 rather than an 8.

Right, I've had to tweak the rotor gear-set and some other bits on the shape just to make it manufacturable, but I don't think it looks too bad. Maybe a bit too 3d, perhaps make the rotor thinner?
I modified the clip geometery too so they're a bit less prone to cracking/snapping, bit of a naff design there.
edit, or silver and chrome like the stock ones:

Those are both awesome and would work with different car colours. I agree that a slightly lower profile to the rotor elements but that's all personal taste and doesn't detract from what is an awesome and very professional looking end product. Much respect.

Nice! Also think a slightly lower profile on the rotor might help - perhaps a slight taper to the edge of the rotor, sort of like the original 'M' but not quite that severe? Though maybe that strays too far from the rotor concept?

Love it. I agree with think it needs to be to be a little lower. What 3d printer are you using
If its not broke I'm sure I can find a reason to take it apart

Are you looking at a 2 part print? the basic cap upside down (support structure for the tabs?) and the rotor separately with some sort of locating pegs to hold the 2 bits in place whilst some glue sets? (would there be a complication with the different sections of rotor not being physically connected to each other?)

Yes, I made the MX-5 ones in two halves to makes sure the surface finish was good on both sides. Tabs will print without support on my machine, I can do that much overhang.

One thought, if you can get an R3 centre cap is to see if you can make the rotor clip on to the centre cap using the same holes as the Mazda logo. That way you could remove the rotor so the caps could be colour-coded to the wheel for supreme coolness effect?

Wow they look fantastic, only concern I'd have is how would they stand up to the weather over time?

Depends what I print 'em in, I'm running PET-G atm which is the same stuff you get pop bottles, etc, made from, so much better than the usual PLA, etc, which degrades. And to be honest if they're painted to get the colours it's not a massive concern anyway.
Well i'd Defo take a set for my R3 if/when you decide to sell. The chrome option is the best one imo

I might do given the interest, I was just wondering/playing around really and couldn't see anything similar around, one is printing atm on some fast/rough settings just to see what it comes out like, will do a proper one later when I put my glass print surface back on.
Yes, it's a translucent/smoked plastic, so the clever ones amongst you could make the rotor illuminate I guess

I'd also be interested in a set for an R3 (presumably in plain to self-paint) or even the STL files to get my cow-orker to print for me.
re: illuminated rotor... now you've done it! Perhaps a battery / LED combo with some sort of centrifugal switch with a time-delay for turn off...

So...here's what I made for my RX-8-that-I-don't-actually-own-today...it's a bit difficult to photograph with it being translucent as the light gets distorted by layers under the surface, doh:
Needs painting and few tweaks, but basically it didn't come out too badly, I think I need to scale up the seal recesses a little just to make them stand out more, I did slope the sides though as requested:
Looks pretty good! Subtle slanting adds something, IMHO. Are the recesses about half the depth of the rotor piece so it all holds together as one? If you need someone to give it a test fit...
Alan (he/him)| 2010 R3 | stock apart from a couple of dings and scrapes! (Black diamond discs, yellow stuff pads, RRP MkII Coils, MSD leads...)
Yep, the recesses are actually to scale from the real ones so they don't go all the way through. If you wanted you could stick a few together and make yourself a little model Renny
edit: very quick blowover with a bit of white primer (not very good, just some thick radiator enamel that was handy), you can see why I suspect making the slots wider might be a good idea for paint vs chrome plating.
