Re: RX8 now...... but whats your car history?
That would have been a first car to be jealous of in ‘94. Insurance can’t have been cheap, although using your Mum as ‘main driver’ was pretty much the norm iirc

You got it
I was a "Named Driver" on all my cars until I moved out in 2001
Insurance was £450 Fully Comp for the XR2
Actually got the car in the Autumn of 1992 & cost me £3250
Paid cash having saved up for around 18 months

Re: RX8 now...... but whats your car history?
Date shown is date I acquired the car. From 1987 I typically owned 2 cars. In 2011 the RX-7 bug struck and I now have 3 rotarys and a Jazz

1977 Ford Capri 1600 OHC
1979 Ford Mexico 1600 Mk 2 (superb car)
1983 Ford Fiesta XR2 Mk 1 (another superb Ford - nicked and written off!)

2000 Honda Accord Aerodeck 2.0 auto
2002 Vauxhall Zafira
2004 Mazda RX-8 231 – currently owned
2006 Honda Jazz 1.4 Vtec

Re: RX8 now...... but whats your car history?
So far I've had a 1978 Dolomite 1850HL, still got that one.
1979 Dolomite 1850HL parts car, paid £75 for it and had 5 times that in parts. Swapped it for a bonnet and an engine.
1990 Peugeot 205 Diesel, non turbo, the slowest car in history. Sold it. It got petrol converted and is probably now bean tins.
2005 Kia Carens, Pug died, needed a car quick. Rubbish.
1996 Mercedes SLK230K. Hated the Kia, got offered the Merc in a swap deal. Dead steering, leaky roof, auto slush box, rattles and 90s Mercedes tin worm. Sold when I agreed to buy my 8.

In 1993 when I was 50 years old I bought my 1st sports car, a 1990 Lotus Esprit Turbo SE with 15.000 mls on the odo......
I immediately did fell in love with this Lotus and the love remained all those 28 years.....
Today, (I hope to become 78 years old in June), I bought and picked up the last new available Evora in the Netherlands and left my Esprit in good hands with the Lotus importer.
It was rather difficult to say goodbye and I felt a little sad to leave her.
Keeping was no option as I have in my garage room for only one car (and a 1975 Honda Goldwing GL1000 K1 motorbike) while I own 2 more cars (daily drivers).........
When saying goodbye and handing her over I kissed her farewell on the roof and thanked her for all the nice years together.
My new Lotus is a Evora GT 410 Sport with IPS .................

Wasnt a bad car, I had another stolen off me in 2019, that annoyed me. I'd just started repairing it all and getting it new again and then it went bye byes and burnt out.Honkytonk wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 12:54 pmNow this is a man with impeccable taste.Jays-231-5speed wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 12:34 pmVectra B 2.5 V6 SRi saloon (3.2 swapped after 2 weeks)

Re: RX8 now...... but whats your car history?
Haven’t posted in here before as my car history isn’t as simple as most because of my job but my latest ‘addition’ has pushed me into it
I haven’t ‘owned’ a lot of cars but have sort of had more than a few
Started with a Citroen AX as my first car (purchased for £100 on my way back from the driving test centre). Then had a weird and wonderful variety including a Saxo, Kia Picanto, Corsa, Vectra, Impreza WRX, Evo 5, Mk3 Golf, Mk1 Golf Cabriolet, FN2 Type R, Zafira. There were a few more as I am fairly easily bored so never owned one for more than 6 months, which I massively regret now with one or two of them. The RX-8 is the first car I’ve owned for about 8 years
After the Zafira I moved onto my first company car and have had a new one pretty much every 3 months since (dealer standards are demonstrators need replaced after a certain amount of time) and normally just after I finally get my seat and mirrors in the right place
Started with Honda so had a Jazz Si to start with then quickly moved to Civics then CR-Vs. Had 4 FK2s in total and loved every one. Only had 1 FK8 and was massively impressed but moved onto my next dealership about 6 weeks after getting it.
Next dealership was Maserati. Had the pleasure of both petrol and diesel Ghibli, a stunning Gran Turismo, a Gran Cab (for the summer) and a Levante when it was first launched. GT was by far the best - and the one I was most careful with!
Then moved to Volvo. V40, S90 and XC90 but mainly stayed with an XC60 R-Design in Bursting Blue. Loved it but it was what a Volvo is notorious for being - comfortable and boring.
Next move (and current dealership) was Ford. Few Focus, a few S-Max, Focus ST, Puma and now my latest car as of Tuesday.
Kuga 2.5 PHEV. I am a massive sceptic when it comes to PHEVs. I can’t charge it at all until I get my charge card through (no access to charge at home and can’t use the ones at work without a card) so assumed it would be a 30mpg car due to the engine size and carrying around a big flat battery, and that the WLTP figures were a load of BS. I am more than happy to admit that I was wrong. Even without charging I have got just short of 60mpg and have done 15 fully electric miles (out of around 100 in total). In theory when I can charge it I should be getting around 120mpg+. I will still be requesting an ST for my next car (Puma or Focus, either will do ) as it’s just not my type of car but I am massively impressed with it and has probably been the biggest surprise out of every car I’ve had so far
Re: RX8 now...... but whats your car history?
The SMT put out some data a couple of years ago that showed that a massive (something like 80) percent of hybrid cars had never been plugged in to charge.
Most were being returned at end of lease with the charge cable still in original unopened packaging or lost.
It was clear that they were being chosen for the wrong reasons, just the tax incentives and exemptions, with no intention of using as designed.

Re: RX8 now...... but whats your car history?
I’ll never understand the logic of not plugging them in. The MPG is surprisingly good without charge but should be so much better with
This is the first time I’ve really paid attention to my MPG (the game has been more like how low I can get it rather than how high ) but I am actually quite intrigued to find out what the realistic savings are compared to a standard ICE car and it may even change the way I drive

Re: RX8 now...... but whats your car history?
Great to read car history... Here is mine in no particular order...
MK3 Ford Escort 1.3 (black with go faster pink striping...don't ask. Was written off within two weeks)
Mazda 323 1.3 - looked like the car from Waynes World - died suddenly due to blown head gasket
Mk2 scirocco 1.6 - had swimming pools in back footwells
Mk2 Golf 1.8 - had lush brown interior
Mk2 Scirocco - one of the only cars I regret getting rid of - one owner, 30k on clock, immaculate - sold it to some numpty who wrote it off...
Mk3 Golf tdi - yeah, was a good car
Corrado G60 - that whistle from the supercharger...swapped this one for a
Peugeot 306 1.9 diesel in green
Mk2 Renault Laguna diesel
MK1 golf 1.0 - looked like a gti, went like a snail
mk2 golf gti 16v - loved this, but was rotten from the swimming pool in all footwells
Citroen C4 grand picasso - great car, seven seats - moved house four times in this beast
mk4 golf 1.8 turbo, chipped to 190bhp. so quick for a mk4...
RX8 231 in red, bought as a daily...learnt my lesson there (on first name terms with the petrol station)
GSXR400
Kawasaki ZX6R
Saab 9.3 turbo with the 210bhp - this car was built like a tank and went so well...
1998 BMW 325i auto - also shifted when needed
Now have a Citroen C2 VTS - made of tin, goes like a go-kart, a Vectra 1.8 VVT and the current RX8 in grey...
I am sure there will be more and I may have missed one or two...

Now have a Citroen C2 VTS - made of tin, goes like a go-kart, a Vectra 1.8 VVT and the current RX8 in grey...
