Not sure how it works in the UK, but I can't see how getting something fixed by an independent mechanic, instead of going to a main dealer would affect insurance.

How many cars of any make have not been recalled by dealers for various reasons so have never had recall work completed - quite a few I bet is that the owners fault if he is not informed?

recalls are issued by vosa mot.my concern is how would an independent garage get the work recorded.as you know ,these insurance companies dont need a lot to wriggle out of an insurance claim. :?

I took my 192 to Brayley Mazda in Westcroft in Milton Keynes and the service was awesome, couldn't fault them. Mine needed 6 different recalls which they did over 2 days. I also bought the black PZ that was parked on their forecourt for 18 months for just £500 so bargain there. They even helped out when the recovery guy i used to move the car had dropped the car in the middle of the road and scarpered quick with the key. I phoned him twice and he said he didn't have the key, the manager of the dealership phoned his boss and in turn he phoned the guy and all of a sudden he did have the key so no idea what he was planning. Anyway, i couldn't praise them enough right up until i checked the oil in the engine of the 192 to find it nearly empty after only 2 days of use. They hadn't topped it up after changing the oil cooler lines so for those 2 days i was running around on just over empty. I thought it wasn't worth kicking up a fuss considering they still had my new PZ still parked on their property so i just topped it up and it was perfectly fine. Other than that, their service was perfect! They also want to see the car once it's sorted and legal. They were all told the engine in the PZ was kaput, there's nothing wrong with it all :)

Wonder if they put an R3 sender in? If they bend the arm then it might not go down to zero, and that sounds a far worse solution. I'd take a can of petrol and a camera with you on a long drive and see how low the needle goes, after they have finished their bridging.
