Does anyone no where the nearest dealership is to Huntingdon, cambs? Also how long is the standard warranty on the 8? I have a couple of niggles with the alloys bubbling and my handbrake gaiter broken, mine is a 55 plate and just wondered if these things would be covered?

Standard warranty is 3 years with an option to renew/extend it annually for maybe another 3 (not including the wheels though) ... yours is well past that unfortunately.

Hi folks

Have had the R3 for 6 months now and lovin it!

It is up for its 48 month service (and the first under my care!) and also MOT. Any suggestions on who I can use near London? Also any tips on what I should watch out for will be most helpful

Cheers!

Which side of London and north or south? If you add your location to your profile we can be more accurate to who may be nearby - and there may be local meets we can point you at.

There is a list of specialists here http://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum/vi ... 25&t=36531 Project RX8, Essex Rotary and Pettit racing are possibly the closest of them to London.

@Pukker - I bought my '09 R3 recently (March 2013) at EMG Cambridge. They sorted out the only minor niggle I had (misting up rear cluster) with no hassle. Its been a pretty good experience so far.

Hi Neal

I can recommend MKG3000 in Twickenham (020 8538 9377) if you are in West London. 10% discount on club membership also. Good team in the service dept whom pay attention to detail. Never had any issues with them whatsoever. Marcus is the service manager.

Now in a scrapyard somewhere in Essex :(

Thanks Shagrington and Nicknackwack.

I did some research on the forums and given the excellent feedback decided to go with Steve at ProjectRX8. Just spoke to him this am and already feel its the right choice though it's a bit of a trek up there from where I am (Central London, Wapping)

Nick, incidentally bought the R3 from MKG3000 and thought the sales team was very good.

Thanks again!

You'll be in good hands with Steve. :thumleft:

It looks like the nearest meet for you would be the Dartford one - the next meet there is next Tuesday.

I don't see a review of them here http://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=50 - you could be the first to post one.

Mine was polite and helpful, maybe because I spent £500 in there on a replacement centre console. :-(

So far so good with my local dealer. I use Mazda Brayley in Harpenden as it's only a few miles away from where I live.
To do list

  • PDR on vehicle due to car park idiots.
  • Repair/Recondition Alloys.

Anyone got any experience with Southampton dealer? I've recently had an engine rebuild and it's nearly time to get the oil and filters changed. Not sure whether to take it back to where I got the work done (Apex) or just get it done more locally.

Can't wait to start driving normally again. Running in an 8 is a painful experience

So, car in to get servicing up to date.

pre-agreed to bring own oil, plugs, coils etc - all good.

Drop off car, get home - 15 mins later - a call.
" this is the wrong oil here mate" (Fuchs 10w 40)
Yeah I know, it's fine, I know it's not what Mazda say, bearings etc etc.
"says it's synthetic"
so does every oil, even when they're not
"Are you sure"
yes.
"really?"
Yes
"be a shame to spoil such a nice car"
Please put the oil in.
"ok"

10 minutes pass.
"we've got a tech bulletin, saying don't put synthetics in, carbon build up blah blah"
It's not a full synthetic, its a semi synth, which the CEO of Fuchs himself confirms is suitable.
"ok, then, if you're sure"
yes, put it in.

Good that they were concerned, but had me doubting myself.
.....are you sure?....... :-k

When I had my FD, awful. tried to tell me that there was nothing wrong with the rats nest when there clearly was!

nevermind, ive not been back since and I don't ever intend to use a dealership unless its for parts. waste of time and money with those monkeys. I live in Aberdeen tho so its easier to learn how to spanner than get ripped off.

Found my local, Nunns Mazda in Cleethorpes to be excellent so far. They seem very clued up on the RX8 which is something I didn't expect. It also gives me confidence knowing one of the mechanics and this guy is as fastidious as they come. My car is very well known to them and they have suggested it's the best example in our area, nice! And small touches like a full valet and a bag of car care products after a service is very welcome too!

Went to Norton Way Mazda in Letchworth the other day to get my locking nuts taken off (bought the car without the key) and they did it for free including the standard nuts to put in place, definitely wasn't expecting that! Really nice bloke handling it all as well.

Local Mazda dealer near me (John Pease Mazda, when I said I had an RX8 he replied "well someone has to.... I don't know what Mazda were thinking with that one"
I said nothing but just turned around and walked out. Lost the parts order I was going to place with them.
I am all for supporting local shops and dealerships but to be spoken to like that is unacceptable behaviour, So much so that I have written a letter of complaint.

I would have gone into great detail about what mazda where thinking and all the reasons why the rotary engine is better ha ha ha I would have easily wasted an hour of his time. ....then walked out :-) ;-)
