I think I'm at the age where I can insurance anything relatively cheaply (always seem to get sub £300 quotes for anything). Paying £270 fully comp/insured 5 years NC for my rx8. I think thats pretty good.

My quotes this year were all over the place! Finally got it down to £420 which is £20 more than I paid last year. That's with minor mods and Advance driver training day and dashcams.

26 7 years NCB and one non-fault claim. Just got a quote to change from my berlingo to the rx8 I'm buying... And whole extra £11 haha

Think it won't be some great come renewal time though as some other Muppet decided to crash into the back of me so will have 2 non fault claims by then :(

I got questioned if they could keep insuring me when swapping to the rx8 from my last car! As it was a higher power car.

I didn't think the change on cars was that dramatic really but only got approved when pointing out they also insure me as a second driver on a higher powered cars already which we own (we normally have 3/4 cars in the house hold and both of us drive)

Apart from the admin fee to update my policy its the same insurance price £600(ish) for me to drive the rx8. I have about 6 years no claims, and im in my 30s so that helps I think. Area- which i think is a huge part on how they insure you, lucky ours isnt too bad. you can google how bad your post code is to car insurer's online.

I tend to go through modified insurance brokers now as the go compare and other internet sites get to a point where they just say can't insure the modifications with our cars.

I know that its done on points, so say you lived in a low crime/crash rate area that would be 1 point instead of 50 for a high crime/crash rate place. Age so if your 18 you get screwed over so thats 50 points instead of say a 60year old with 40 year ncb. Any mods count as the same which is about 20-50 points per mod dependent on car theft and people with modified cars tend to thrash them (i know it doesnt always apply to all people but to an insurance company it does). And there are even more variables then that. So the higher your points are the higher your insurance is.

Actually... you might be surprised, if you live in an "upmarket area" you may be penalised based on the cars your neighbours drive.

So, in a small village in the middle of nowhere where the average car is worth £30k plus (as an example) means the average payout is much higher (although less often) than, say, a council estate where the average cost of a car is £500 and therefore paying out much less (but more often).

Not sure if I explained that right, but this is how the insurance company justified the £200 price hike when I moved from a council estate to the middle of nowhere... Needless to say I am no longer with that company.

I used to work for a car insurance company and anything you get told to justify prices is just a guess really, the actual algorithms used are massively secret but it's just statistics no logic applied it's just based on how much they pay out on claims in your area/age/car etc

I'd go with the cynical stance and say the any increase is optimistic money grab hoping you'll just accept the increase and be too lazy to get other quotes.

The post i put applies to direct line, hastings direct and 1st centrol (cant spell). But almost everything and anything counts towards points for insurance companys to charge whatever number they can pull out their ( enter swear word, body part, object here ).

Uh oh. I hope it's not that simple, as a local bus leaked diesel for 10 miles locally on the school run recently and about 20 cars ended up crashing along the route.

Works particularly well on modified cars where the process of getting agreed value quotes is so much of a pain with endless forms to fill in.

'Quick' call to AF and in turn they 'called' the ins co - agreed to match last years' price. So back down to £300 plus the agreed valuation premium. Time for a polish and send 'em some pics.....
