I do a mixture of motorway, A & B roads to and from work, 25-95 mph over a distance of 60 miles (round trip) I put in £10 a day for fuel. I've got a 192 in a 240 body (long story find the thread if your interested lol)
So I'm guessing something around 18-25 ppm!!!!! Haven't done the maths for mpg as it would scare me

But obviously the 95mph bits are on the private road sections you drive along, obviously ;)

So as I understand it, the challenge is to drive continually for 300 miles without refuelling. Am I correct?

Yep pretty much in the title don't suppose it has to be continuous just on a tank let's face it won't get 300 from lot of short journeys

:whathesaid:

Get in car, drive for 300 miles without visiting a petrol station = profit.

If you're REALLY hard core then you can try to plonk yourself in to the 400 mile club. Of which I believe there are 2 members!

Ok so do I need to be a member of the club? I'm guessing so! And how do I verify the journey etc. I'm guessing it's on trust and what's the prize!! Thanks

Haha, you are thinking this is a lot more impressive a thing than it is! you don't need to be a member of the club (although you should be for a million and one other reasons) and you don't get anything for winning! Trust is good enough for us - we'll have an inkling of whether you're lying or not as if you come back saying you've done eleventy billion miles then... yeah... :P

Then chickened out and filled up - 57 litres of fuel! At that rate, and assuming a precise 60 litre capacity, I'd have got to just shy of 320 before a world of hurt! So close...

The R3 tank is a little larger I think - 65 litres rather than 61, hence the 320 target versus 300 for the S1s.

You had loads ;)

I am usually happy about my fuel economy skills in the RX8, but having driven 1200 miles in the past 3 days in my A6 3.0 TDI it makes me sad again...

I only used £180 of diesel...

It's genuinely amazing when you do that. I once had to drive up to Scotland from Sussex and hired a car because it was going to work out so much cheaper. 700 miles later and I'm filling it up for the first time...

That said, the fuel tank in the barge is huge. Cost me £93 to fill from empty and that's at average fuel prices...

Had a long trip and got to fuel stop at 292.4miles (55litres). Galvanised myself after reading comments here and made the return last until 300.3miles for 57litres.
Now I've joined the 300 club and achieved >24mpg I'll return to normal <17mpg driving. :-)

A long long motorway trip and cruise set at 60... That'll net you ~400 miles to a tank. But you will be on fumes

Then you need to up your game!

Mine was running D585s, decat, fairly new plugs (under 3000 miles old) and had no luggage or anything in it but me. And I practically ran it dry, too!

I was doing 70-80mph on motorway for first 200miles. This got me to just under half a tank. Last 100 miles was hard work - the reserve light is horribly "naggy" ! ;-)

Cruise control is less fuel efficient than a light right foot, as it can only react to things like inclines rather than anticipate.
