Orbist says:
I just cannot see how this is done... even driving really really sedately and I'm lucky to get over 200. Prettyt much bang on 50 miles for firstr 1/4, 100 by half way point and then another 50 by 3/4 ... no matter how I drive...
I get 250 or just over from a tank, even with "fun" driving. You must spend time in traffic jams, and perhaps making short journeys (?). I pretty much avoid both.

After 12,500 miles, my oil consumption has almost stopped! Checked it this morning: one third full. I last added oil perhaps 1000 miles ago, adding about half a litre. I beep it nearly every trip. I would actually like to see it use some oil.

Hey Druck

Nevermind achieving 24mpg, I congratulate you on breaking 50,000 miles. Well done.

I think I've realised why I can regularly get 300 miles easily on long trips. I never hit 90 mph on the motorway! Traffic on the motorways in Scotland are generally about 10mph slower than those in England. Probably because most of our motorways are really trumped dual-carriageways :D

Congrats again Druck 8)

Cheers

Whats even scarier is that I'm running tyres under stock, so a mile in my car is less than you all...

Even on long trips I've never managed more than about 245 from a tank. I think my car's f#*ked... ;) Myabe those stickers add some major drag factor

I'm sure I'm in da club now but not able to prove it yet - too chicken to push it all the way.

The odo goes to about 270 miles with slightly less than a 1/4 tank left. Can I join the club then ? :D

Mine hits the orange light very soon after that; I reckon 300 miles is more than possible, but the best I've done is 287 then the light came on.

Have managed 190 by 1/2 tank, though.

Just drove back from the Gower Peninsula in South Wales. Filled up before we left and managed to get all the way up to Tebay services in Cumbria on the M6 before the light came on. Total of 314.9 miles. It took 52 litres to fill up, so about 27.5mpg.

This despite a boot full and a 20 minute hold up at Junction 9.

Had a long trip with work, and loads of time, so decided to try and break my frugality record. Eventually refuelled at 304.4 miles, because I was getting grief from the passengers seat (she ran out in my 8 once, and I had assured her that there was 'loads left'). It took 53.46 litres, so that equates to 25.88 MPG, not quite so impressive as my best, which is 27.5ish.

27.8mpg. Didn't beat my record of 30.5, but not too shabby. This was a couple of short journeys totalling about 20 miles and the rest M4/M25. Stuck to 70 by the GPS, so 73/74 by the speedo. Little bit of stop/start and 40/50/60 nonsense on the M25 this evening.

jeez! its the opposite for me..
My usual daily trip is a a short 1/2mile to the motorway via a dual carraigeway, then 6 miles of M4 to another dual carraigeway for 2 miles to Stockley.. 8 miles of quick moving traffic.

The usual tankful gets me 200 miles.. The worst one was 165.5 miles, the next one had a nice long drive to SantaPod, and back, and gave me 235..
This one though looks to be the worst yet..
I'm a few notches off half a tank with a massive 72 miles on the trip..

Me thinks I should use 5th & 6th more often!

It was bloody tedious, though... Not so much keeping the speed down, but maintaining a constant speed and refraining from using the acceleration. I did beep it once, coming out of a 40mph variable limit on the M25 onto the M4, I had a git in a Fiesta driving aggressively and close.

When I got 30.5 it was mostly on the A34 with hardly any traffic. What really screws you when it's busy is that there is so much traffic hogging lane 2 at about 80mph that coming up behind a lorry you end up losing speed while you wait for a gap. So it then costs you fuel to accelerate back to 70. Obviously nobody figures out that you are shortly going to need to get into lane 2 and accommodates you, because they are all driving on autopilot. Normally, I'd just increase my speed to match the lane 2 traffic and thus not need as much of a gap, but it's all the gaining and losing of speed that costs economy.

350 Mile Club

Post by Chiefy »

Getting over 300 Miles before the light comes on seems to be quite easy on a run without a lot of town driving - I am horrified by people getting 14 MPG and and 160 Miles out of a tank!! even when driven carefully.

Whilst running mine in went to Portsmouth and back ( from Boston ) and got 387 miles before the light came on. Two weeks later I went up to Middlesbrough ( 153 miles ), ran to college and back ( rush hour ) 3 miles each way, all week and then drove back down. Just as I got home my light came on at 342 miles. I drove on the motorway the same speed as everyone else without thrashing it and sorted more than a couple of Golf TDI's out.

And no - my Odometer is not set on Kilometers!!

I am beginning to wonder if it is something to do with careful running in. The lowest I have had is about 25 around town.

Blue Mica Leather 190.

The 190 seems to be considerably more economical.

I got 26.9 on Saturday doing M5/M6 and not particularly trying for economy.

Drove 500 miles over the weekend (2 lots of 250 miles) most I got in my HP was 275 miles... still 75 more than I usually get :) And that's mostly 60-90mph on motorways (with the odd spike)

My last three tanks have been 314, 308, 317.

I put it down to the warmer weather.

Only 600 miles of warranty left now... Big decision looming I think. :D

Best MPG ever?

Post by ricey »

After having the car for a week i was whimpering about the fuel consumption to anyone who'd listen (whimpering wasnt really necessary as it did about 230 to the tank in the end). This week (2nd week of ownership) i've just done 350 miles to a tank.

It was running on fumes by the end but I was mightily impressed by this (as im typing this I thought i'd better check the tank capacity - thought it was 10 gals but its 13 so not so maybe not so impressive after all :( thought i was getting 35 to the gallon for a min

Still has anyone else managed to top this to a tank.
