Been meaning to post in here actually as I did my first long runs in Frank since the bridgey-ness. I managed to do 298 when the light came on, which for a race extension car with a 2k idle I didn't actually think that was too bad!

Its made funnier by the qoute showing the pre edit. I assume one would have to bother resetting the trip for this club. I just put fuel in and go with ignorance is bliss

Yeah, that's how I usually do it, but back when I was dailying my R3 and also claiming expenses on the mileage I wanted to maximise the return - hence getting 400. The trip up to Yorkshire was more out of curiosity than anything. I reckon I could still push 350 on a full eco-run.

It's close but I don't think I'm going to make it.

I got 180 miles out of the first 50% of the tank but the needle started to plummet much more rapidly after that. My driving style didn't change at all.
Doesn't feeeeeeel like it's a 300 this time around.

So close on my trip up to Anglesey!

Sure I would have cracked 300 but had to bite the bullet with a shortage of fuel stations nearby..

The top 'half' certainly seems to be bigger than the bottom 'half' - I suspect it is to do with it being a saddle tank over the drive shaft?

My first 300+ mile tank!

Found a huge difference in keeping under 3.5k rpm on the motorway.

I wish 6th gear was a little longer to keep the speeds up and revs down. Anyone ever swapped in a longer final drive…?

The auto box had a taller top gear (4th ) which in effect made it 3 gears and an overdrive. 3k revs was over 70mph.
My record was 366 miles on a return trip to Bournemouth with crappy traffic on the M3 and M25 so it does make a difference but you'll need to change down for any acceleration.

Down to Glasgow & back this weekend, 264 miles of mostly motorway but a fair bit of driving around Glasgow too.
Guage was just below the 1/4 mark when I stopped to re-fuel on the way back, and squeezed 50litres in, so I think it'll easy do 300+ next month when I drive down south (I'll keep a 5l fuel can in the boot just in case though).
How easy is the RX8 to re-start if it does run out if fuel!

So I managed 309 miles yesterday before the fuel light came on, from Dundee to near Doncaster, I went down the A1 and detoured via the Tyne Tunnel, purely for tunnel noises
Stupidly forgot the obligatory photo before re-fuelling though  , going back to Scotland tomorrow so will try and beat that if possible

This was during our recent visit to Combe at the weekend. Iam well used to getting around 300 per tank even in our rural location.
I reckon if i had been brave enough, i could have managed 350 easily, this was done with 4 people in for about 70 miles of it. My record is 362 on the same journey, but i had 5ltrs in the back as a crutch. :D

In a standard R3 on that run you could easily make it on one tank or with one fuel stop, clearly you were going for smiles per gallon in preference to miles per gallon without the speed limiter in the passenger seat.

you did much better than me Rob 😂 i only refueled the twice on the journey back......
In a standard R3 on that run you could easily make it on one tank or with one fuel stop, clearly you were going for smiles per gallon in preference to miles per gallon without the speed limiter in the passenger seat.
The first was only a £30 top up to brim the tank at the shell by combe, so i knew i could make it to a Texaco by chester which is 1.74 for unleaded. Where I only had less than 1/4 left so was able to brim it again. By there i was very bored at any attempt to start the mpg figure with a 2 and was ready to get home.
