Re: It's a great car and other non-negative RX8 stuff
I sold my PZ to put towards importing a 20B Cosmo, but sadly it didn't happen for several reason. I miss the RX8 and all its little idiosyncrasies so am now on the lookout for another rotary, or fitting a rotary into something its not supposed to fit in lolNickp47 wrote:I have ordered a Leon Cupra and was planning to sell my Evolve to partly find the deposit but just cannot bring myself to do it, never thought it would be so hard to part with a car I paid £700 for!

Re: It's a great car and other non-negative RX8 stuff
Mine's down at the garage having some welding done for the MOT today.
I've had it, err...8 years now I think (it's an '05) and whilst I've been talking about replacing it for about about 5 years, I can't find anything that's remotely as enjoyable every day, it's great fun to drive (I drove a McLaren MP4/12 and a Ferrari 458 Speciale on a track day and getting back in the RX8 STILL wasn't a disappointment, although the brakes felt a bit weak! ), comfortable to travel in, has a decent stereo, is practical-ish, cheap-ish to tax and insure and I don't do that many miles now as I'm home based for work.
I even spent about 4K having a new engine (and lots of ancillary bits) a while back as I couldn't find anything I faintly fancied for twice that (and those were dull things like old BMW 318s...)
I thought maybe this year would be it as I was quoted £650 or welding and replacing two front shocks to get it through the MOT, but I did the shocks myself (total cost £130 plus about 4 hours of my time) and I expect the welding to be around £200.
I'll be looking regularly as, being a fairly regular scuba diver, I really could do with something more practical, but I wouldn't be totally surprised to find myself trying to MOT it again in 2017!

Re: It's a great car and other non-negative RX8 stuff
10 years of on and off RX8 ownership has taught me one thing...this car is truly unique. It has an engine that is considered unconventional, doors that open the "wrong" way, a bad reputation with economy and reliability and a road tax that rivals thirsty V8. Yet, we have so many avid and passionate owners with a wealth of information about this car that makes you wonder are we just "rotarted".
I have owned so many interesting cars from an MG TF to a brand new Focus ST and none of these cars offered what the 8 does. Mind you the cars I have had done certain things well but never had the full package of the 8. Every time I buy one I know that i might have a little less in my pocket but a bigger smile on my face.
This first thing I noticed is the handling balance and smoothness of this car....and the lack of torque lol. But wow just so incredibly smooth that I forget there is an engine in there. Just love the look and feeling of this car and all of the small things that Mazda put into this to make it special. The instrument cluster is just meant for a driver and the car wants to be driven. I really can't believe what you get here in the UK for under £2000, back home in Canada the RX8 are going for about £3000 went potentially a bad or going engine.
The car isn't perfect, and that why I love it. It comes with this little things that really make the car unique like a CF propshaft, Aluminium hood, and a nice buzzer to remind you to shift at 9k rpm. The funny thing about this car is that not many people really know what a healthy good relationship with this car is all about. To those who do, it is hard to find another car to give you this love and appreciation to why Mazda continues to hold on to this Rotary experimental vehicles idea.

A comment from another website
RX8s are like Alfa Romeos and children, they'll drive you to distraction and run off with all your money, but you still love them

When an owner of an XKR gets out of the driver's seat of an RX8 grinning like a mad thing, and saying that car is an absolute hoot, you know it's a bit special.

Re: It's a great car and other non-negative RX8 stuff
First time flooding it today, spent the last hour cursing Mazda. Got it running eventually then battered it on a country road to teach it a lesson. Within seconds I'd forgotten all about the flooding and was beaming ear to ear. The cars a fking sadist and I love it! What other car can do that??

Owned mine for 7 years now...................
The Evolve is 10 years old with 93,000 miles on the clock. Had the engine sorted, a year ago by RRevs.
Still thirsty, but I offset that by owning an All electric car, which serves two purposes, 1. Cheap running. 2. Makes me really appreciate the RX8.
Such a great car, and a true pure pleasure to drive.....................
Does not do that much mileage now, but it stays with me........end of.

one year and a half of ownership and it keeps putting a smile on my face every time I drive it.
Amazed by the grip and how fast it handles the corners.
And also still can't believe that this design is 14 years old...

Re: It's a great car and other non-negative RX8 stuff
Went to a festival in North Wales over the weekend and took my PZ
Just me and my brother so went via the back roads for some fun, including the Evo triangle
First real chance I've had to see what the car can do over an extended drive and it was awesome!!
Levels of grip are unbelievable and sound from the rotary at 9,000 rpm is just fantastic!!
And it was totally comfortable throughout - just an awesome machine!!

With the price you can pick the S1's up for, and the fun factor of them, I'd happily buy one each time the engine goes. When my S1 engine went, I was close to just buying another cheap one to do the daily drive. Opted for the R3 instead.DaveKimberley wrote:Which? Scything through the english countryside on a perfect afternoon to the sound of bond film soundtracks.
Nobody does it better(than the rx8). Literally couldn't have been happier in any other car.

Re: It's a great car and other non-negative RX8 stuff
My RX-8 love story started in 2002 when i saw the concept RX-8. My uncle explained to me that the ''concept car'' / ''prototype'' its made to look fancy...but the production car its gonna be different. I still believed it was the most beautiful car, but when it came out...it looked even better. At that time I knew nothing about the engine (I was 12), so it was just the looks. I worshipped this car thru NFS Underground and Underground 2, then I started to learn more about it. Time passed, all my friends had posters with Lambo's and Ferrari's ... I was still drooling after the RX-8. And finally, I got my own in December '16. Its a whole new experience...nothing will be the same after driving a RX-8.

Re: It's a great car and other non-negative RX8 stuff
Not a story as such but I was in the local shop the other day and came out to find a bunch of guys around the car.....again!! It happened to me a while back but these guys were older so I didn't know what to expect but as I approached it was all good. They just wanted to know about the car ect ect.A few of them didn't know what it was ( fair enough, she was backed up close to a wall, that and there's only three R3's over here )
Anyways long story short it was nice to get compliments on it ( bar the stone chipped front end ) and set a few opf them straight regarding the rubbish surrounding these cars.Of course they wanted to hear it sooooo I obliged Seeing their contorted faces upon inhaling copious amounts of premix.......Priceless!!
