Re: It's a great car and other non-negative RX8 stuff
Yes fuel economy is dreadful, yes it lacks pulling power, yes it’s totally out gunned in a straight line by my 70 year old dads jag f-pace (he is very young at heart), yes it’s extremely irritating as an everyday drive, yes it’ll run away with your money, yes it causes people to question your sanity. BUT, on the magical day on the magical road, the magical weather with the magical passenger, the RX8 is simply the best driving experience imaginable.

Ha ha ha. My magical passenger is my wife. I had an offer for the car from a neighbour as it hadn’t moved in months. I was going to accept until my wife made sad puppy eyes at me and said if I sold it she would file for divorce. Ironically she doesn’t even drive!!!!

Excellent - normally it's people posting ultimatums from other half of "It's me or the car" style. Nice to see it the other way round!

Re: It's a great car and other non-negative RX8 stuff
I think my wife craved the adventurous. She came from a ‘Volvo family’. Her dad drove a W plate V70 (comfy car but steering doesn’t seem connected to wheels) and then bought a V60. I’m sorry but all those cars are FWD and Horrid. BTW the old V70 is great for taking stuff to the dump.

Sometimes it's the small touches that make you really like the car. For instance, sun-visors that are actually useful!

Re: It's a great car and other non-negative RX8 stuff
I was filling up a few days ago and was putting in the premix, the guy on the opposite pump asked me what it was. I explained why I use it but I got the usual ' don't they give trouble after 40K miles or so?'
Explained that its just a myth and offered to show him my speedo after he was done filling up. He was very surprised. I told him I had it rebuilt after 65K but that wasn't the cars fault, it was down to a muppet wrecking the engine whilst changing the clutch ( don't ask)
Anyways long story short he left enlightened and said it was a ' cool' car One person at a time eh?

Re: It's a great car and other non-negative RX8 stuff
Wife and kids have gone to Aberdovey for a week or so (her sister has a place there so they'll come back when they get bored ) which meant I got to drive my PZ over on Friday and back yesterday (some of us still have to work to pay for their holidays )
Car performed faultlessly as usual, which I was a bit worried about as it hadn't moved since March after I SORN'd her during lockdown
Just a fantastic experience, a howling rotary, perfect balance flicking through the many corners on North Wales roads and an involving driving experience
For the last 6 years my daily driver's have all been automatics (4x4's, currently a lovely 7 series) and I love the fact you really have to drive an RX8 to get the best out of it
Had a great blast following another 56 plate - a BMW Z4 Coupe
My wife had one of these and they are fantastic cars, only available with a 3 litre straight 6 petrol engine
(its a really lovely engine, plenty of power on tap in any gear)
He had much more power than me on the straights, but the RX8 was more than a match through the bends - I think we both enjoyed ourselves!

Re: It's a great car and other non-negative RX8 stuff
These headlights! I've owned/driven plenty of more expensive cars that don't light up the road nearly as well.
In the countryside with the dipped, main, fog and side lights all on it's like having night vision. So bright and such a wide radius lit up. Even just on dipped beam they manage to strike the balance between lighting the road, without annoying other drivers.
Ace lights.

Re: It's a great car and other non-negative RX8 stuff
Just thought I'd pop in and revisit - I've been without my RX8 for 3.5 years now and I still miss it.
I needed something with more space for dive gear, so leased (and then bought) a VW Golf R Estate, which is a very capable bit of kit, stunningly quick and far more practical for my needs (35 MPG on a run, 40 even on occasions!), but it's never an event to get in and drive and it never makes me smile when I tackle a twisty road the way the RX8 did.
I once did a supercar experience day where I drove a McLaren and a Ferrari 458 back to back - I got back in my Mazda and the only thing that was REALLY disappointing by comparison were the brakes. I won't pretend the RX8 is a match for either of those, especially the 458 which is hands down the best car I've ever driven, but it didn't feel like a let down after them.
I had my car for 8 years, one engine rebuild and God knows how much petrol and, if I'm honest, I didn't really 'get it' for about 18 months, but once I did, I loved it and I don't think anything will ever be quite as good.

Re: It's a great car and other non-negative RX8 stuff
Was parked at McDonalds last week waiting for our order to be brought out. The very young (to me) staff member walked towards the front of the car with our order and said "Is that an RX8? I love those, yours is so cool!".
Had a few spontaneous compliments from various young people at shops over the past year. Probably more this year than combined over my whole ownership. I'm impressed that they even know of the car, let alone like it. It's a nice feeling so I always say thank you

Was on my NC500 run this Summer with my true love (my missus jokes that she came along too) and my missus remarked she was surprised by the number of guys discretely checking her out...then she realised 'Hang on a mo, they were checking out the CAR!'
I said I thought that was a shame....because they could've just come straight out and asked about it

My daily driver is an Alpine A110 - I bought this for many reasons, mainly because of how it feels to drive. But tucked away in my garage is my RX8 - and quite honestly, that’s the one I look forward to driving more. It may be getting on for 20 years old, but what a drivers car! I love my RX8!

Re: It's a great car and other non-negative RX8 stuff
Nothing I have ever owned puts a smile on my face, and gives me a glow of satisfaction than knowing I saved this car from the scrapheap.
The only things in my life ahead of this car are my Wife my Son my Grandchildren, and the pride I have in building a successful business from nothing.
I apologise for the post being a bit self indulgent....but at 58 I think I've earned it.
