Admittedly, those photos above aren't of nick's car  just thought I ought to specify that more clearly.... They are however of the single worst RX-8 I've ever laid eyes on for rot.

(The car has subsequently been broken for parts by the fella that bought it off FB )

I’m yet to collect it Harry but the photos show the standard rust round tail light, top of door sills where doors meet etc. Fingers crossed it’s not too bad but either way given the low miles the plan is to make it lovely over time .

It’s about £2350 with the fees (auction purchase) so possibly not too bad for a 23k 231 but the Nordic 192 I mentioned sold for absolute buttons and I’ve always had a soft spot for the 192 so compared to that not cheap.

Do you remember how much it went for? I feel like I’ve got a high tolerance for absolute sheds but even I wouldn’t have touched that one (mostly for fear it would fall apart if I laid a finger on it)

Off the top of my head, it sold for £1200 I think? :-k was a while back I'd have to dig through and see if I've got a screenshot of the advert.

Definitely got to be worth saving.... As long as it's much better for rot than the one in the pics that is! Gotta keep all the bananas driving and living on :inlove: got no doubt you'll be able to do right by it [-o< :thumright:

Drove 270miles to get a paint and bodywork quote
2.5k paint
800 bodywork, including rear quarter replacement (there’s an absolute cowboy filler job that is unsalvageable)
All in all for £60 in fuel i’m saving £700 but for much better work (my best quoters here just want to redo the filler)

Was at Oulton Park on Saturday not the best outing for the car.

Had really flat power at 4-7k after a couple of sessions then felt like it had a turbo at 7k with the power kick, and a really nasty jump going / sudden lack of power from redline in 3rd to 4th which felt almost like a miss fire. but looks to be the SSV Solenoid that was being affected by the heat it eventually threw a CEL with it for P0661 so packed up after an outing after lunch after the code reappeared when it got hotter.

It's now booked into revs for next Friday to get the SSV looked at, interim service and a smoke test as I've had a suspension it's had an vacuum leak somewhere so may as well get it all done in one

I’ve been trying to trace what’s causing my flashing airbag code 1-9. Does anyone round Sheffield have anything that can read the ‘B’ code that is could be?

Clockspring seems ok, cleaned connectors under seat.

11 Driver-side air bag module (inflator No.1) circuit short to body ground (See DTC B1913, B1916, B1932, B1934.)

unplug the airbag connector and see if the code changes.

Same code flashing with drivers airbag disconnecter, and clockspring disconnected.

For future reference, it's all in here , when you choose Troubleshooting rather than Workshop Manual, then RESTRAINTS >> DTC TABLE.

You get the high-level description of the fault, then a click-thru to the individual causes, with connector pin-outs etc.

Collected the yella . On initial inspection it seems actually quite a solid car for a twenty year old RX-8 so quite happy with that. I will see where the engine is at in terms of compression tomorrow, ignition is clearly knackered so possibly original coils and the starter sounds original too.

Solid . Ignition coils were indeed original , as was the starter (turning at sub-150rpm so battery probably not great either) so new ignition bits and an R3 starter have gone on

Fitted my wosp starter motor, wow, I've had one before so I know they're good(it was an older version though) but these new models are the next level, car hardly even turns over before it fires (less than a second hot or cold)

Yeah they're epic. If you ever do a comp test you'll see just how fast they spin!
