Air bag recall booked with Donald’s Mazda under very strict instructions to ONLY touch the airbag parts and NOT do a health check. Last thing I need is the numpties that work there messing with what is currently a nicely running car, which from their reputation is a big ask 🙄
Expect the car to run poorly after the airbag is replaced.

This is because they have to disconnect the battery, for safety, and will be reconnecting and starting the car with a still-warm engine. The PCM will have cleared its fuelling memory and will struggle to relearn when the engine is already warm.

This may result in it struggling to maintain idle, and run rough at low-medium revs.

DON'T PANIC

It will sort itself eventually as you drive.
Alternatively, you can force a reset, once you're back home and after the engine has cooled overnight.

Stories I’ve heard (and personal experiences) of this particular dealer don’t fill me with confidence but thats good to know 😊 at Petes the day after anyway so any problems I’ll have an actual expert that can take a look

2nd visit to Robs to finish the repairs.
Can highly recommend the 🥓Bacon sausage snd egg sandwich, yum yum.
But they are only for special people who can manage to bugger up a family's Saturday twice in a row.
Anyway before and afters, warts and all, is there no end to the talent of this man?
Now to Krown to future proof.

Looks like a thorough job, how much did it cost?
I scrapped my 04 RX-8 and bought a Kuro instead as the quotes I got to repair the rust was multiples of what the car was worth.

Decided to do some testing with my subs/amps and blew a 100 amp fuse in the process.
PXL_20210501_170845129.jpg
Gave the car a wash then went for a long drive to EuroCarParts to get a few things

Sorry but any costs involved must remain between Rob and I, I am sure you will understand.

Luckily the structural parts behind the outer panels were in good condition, going further in would have been much more challenging.
The most tricky bit was the outer to inner arch detail, which originally comprised of 2 skins coming very close together just in front of the wheel, a guaranteed moisture trap,so we opted to bring the inner arch down vertically thus allowing any further inspection and maintainence much simpler.
All in all a fairly easy job if a little time consuming, and lets hope that it is now future proofed with the help of Krown. :thumleft:

Today I changed the oil and spark plugs on my Step father's 2007 Nemesis. Also gave it a compression test as we don't know the history of the car. Discovered that the coils and revision C ones so not gonna bother changing them. Below are the results of the compression test. Hot engine in the top spark plug hole, not sure if it matters which plug you use...!?!!

The 7s are front rotor.

The car has circa 40k miles on the clock. I would be keen know peoples opinions of these results given the age/mileage of the car. ImageImage

Spent all of yesterday with mi60o0 fitting his old R-Magic manifold to my car. Suspected slight blow from it, hoping to head up to Revs to get the gasket replaced and then re-tuned soon.
Since last time (dyno'd at 209WHP) I've installed an AEM intake, Racing Beat catback, RRP dual res midpipe and now the R-Magic manifold. Bit of a mashup, but hoping to scrape a few more digits out of it, maybe even hit the magic 220WHP if I'm lucky.

Got rid of the nasty rusty subframe, calipers and steering knucles today, well, this weekeend.

Wishbone bushes had split away from the steel due to corrosion so fitted new wishbones and anti roll bar links, finally as it was all out i replaced the sagging engine mounts.

The wishbones are new and the subframe and knucles came from Japan. The parts from Japan came from a higher mileage car but just look at the difference no road salt makes:
Image
Nice virtually rust free subframe with new wishbones ready to go in:

Image
Not such a bad job once i bit the bullet and got stuck in:

Now i stand a chance of an MOT pass :-)

Not too pleased to have to go to them it but at least it’s only the airbag and not the fuel pump. Big Pete saying he’ll look it over while I’m there has put me a bit at ease at least

Was adding up the costs of parts I need to buy to get my car road ready once again.. Checking EBC for some Pagid rear brakes.. £40 for a pair.. I was budgeting up to £90 off the top of my head so ehm... I have some lovely new disc brakes on the way to me..

Just brake fluid, EBC blue stuff all round, FL22, drop links all round and oil filters.. Still over 200 quids worth to go I guess. :p

Pagid is part of TMD Friiction and used to be the oem brake suppliers to the likes of Aston Martin, among others.
However, these days they only sell product through Euro Car Parts.

It's a bit like when the Hygena Kitchens brand was bought by MFI - for those that have long memories.

I'm not sure how, or even if, that reflects in the quality of the products but it certainly makes them more competitive on price.

I just put a set of Pagid pads on the rear of Pauline's Octavia, and that now stops fine :thumleft:

I remember you saying Dave before about them being OEM to certain brands in the past. I figure since the cars not hitting the track this year at all.. For 40 quid to replace the gouged disc and have new rears it's pretty worth it.

I think my fronts are still in pretty good condition.. If not I have a feeling John will be pawing some C hooks off on me. 😂

Also just realised I put EBC instead of ECP.. Brakes were definitely on the mind when I typed that.

Long overdue airbag recall at rrg Stockport today.
Guy said they don't see many these days and the ones they have had recently were a bit worse for wear, the mechanic's were admiring it.Image

Also nice to see some rotary heritage in the showroom, even if only in a picture on the wall.
