527 taxed but 111 sorn so still (up to) 638 left, no?
Every so often a few will come back and the number will blip up but then the trend continues down and our cars get rarer.

I wonder what happens with the ones that are exported, are they noted as sorn or removed from howmanyleft?

Lovely colour that, must have been one of the last off the line. I'd pay that if it was a minter

On the flip side those of us that do keep our rotaries will be in possession of rare ( getting rarer ) beasts :D Who knows twenty years from now we could be sitting on little gold mines 8)
My FD3 rocketed up in value from £3500 to £12k in 5 years. So now i'm wondering how long we will still have petrol for sale vs the use i'm getting from it.

By the time my 231 is worth anything it could be 2025 and new petrol vehicles will be getting thin on the ground. :-k
Have a good time, all the time :thumright:

Yeah FD values are rising quickly, i'd be keeping the 7 if I were you, hard to say about the R3's though.Just my own opinion here and I'll get slaughtered but I think the S1's will never increase in value, even the mint ones, the R3's have some chance but I just can't see the S1's doing anything....

Cue the pitchforks and torches

You're probably right regarding the majority of S1's, with a few exceptions.

I reckon a mint PZ or 40th Anniversary could potentially out perform an R3 in the investment stakes.
An original (unmodified) 03/04 Lightning Yellow would also be a collectors car (so that's mine out)
It's about rarity and desirability.

I think PZ and R3 will go up in value but there will be some time to go before that happens. Both these models hold their value way better than the others. There has been barely if any fall in value of these over the last 2-3 years.

This.

Although the SORN figures are kinda subjective. There may be a few on SORN that are roadworthy (mine is currently on SORN for example), but there may also be a few that are on SORN being stripped for parts etc.

Flipping eck, that is low. Its weird to think that R3s are disappearing every month.

Pete showed me photos of a black R3 that had been in a massive side collision, probably with a lorry... or a tank from the amount of damage. The entire passenger side was just pancaked (and I hope miraculously those inside survived).

... but at least that means they're not all dying due to engine failure as the internet would have you believe.

As Dan said last year, I suspect lots of those SORN numbers are scrap.

All models are seriously heading south!

Even a 231 series one is showing low numbers now. With prices as they are buying a scraper for spares wouldn't be a bad idea.

The RX-8, particularly the R3, was making strong money in Europe (at least before the lockdown) and there are at least three buyers in France that are picking cars up from the UK, exporting to France and reselling with a 120-150% mark-up.

I also know of two R3's that were exported to South Africa.

So "All models are seriously heading south!" is much more accurate than you'd think.

Mine is getting SORN'd from next month since I don't drive it anymore. But it's still roadworthy.

I think the s1 will increase in value as they are getting scrapped at a terrible rate, much like the Capri in its day a good 2 litre S is harder to find an a 2.8 injection today,it is harder to find standard models,as halo models are seen as an investment.

Seeing such low numbers has me with mixed feelings. On the one hand it feels all the more special when i drive mine but sad to know there arent many out there. Same for my brothers 5th gen 2.2 prelude, getting rarer by the day.

Let's hope that those being scrapped are going to be scavenged to keep the rest on the road, rather than just being crushed.

It'll be interesting to see the figures as we go through COVID. I know a lot of people who have SORN'd their R3s due to COVID etc. Also it's worth noting that there are a lot of fair-weather owners who will SORN over winter.
