Re: changing sidelight bulbs
Looks like a Sealey AK8591. I've had a quick look at changing my sidelights on the R3, but I don't think access is quite the same as it was on my 231..
Just need to actually look it up.

Re: changing sidelight bulbs
Changing the sidelight bulbs on the R3 is done through the wheel arches @Brix as it's the opposite side of the light

Re: changing sidelight bulbs
Isn't there a VW/Seat that you have to remove inner wheels arches and then some substantial bits of the car just to the replace the bulb on (as least) one side. I seem to recall that it was something like £120+ dealer labour, and that was a few years ago.
Would that now make those models a write-off if a bulb blew?
I know Halfrauds had to amend their offer to "We fit your headlights bulbs from £8"

Vw call it service position I believe, I've had two vws, a v6 4mo golf and a passage w8, to deal with headlights it was a bumper off job, first time is a pain, after that I got it down to about 15 minuteswarpc0il wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2017 4:45 pmIsn't there a VW/Seat that you have to remove inner wheels arches and then some substantial bits of the car just to the replace the bulb on (as least) one side. Re: changing sidelight bulbs
I had a feeling it would be a pita. Might just whip the bumper off then, as I couldn't get my hands in the S1 to change those..

Re: changing sidelight bulbs
I do it when I remove the bumper. It's not that difficult to whip the bumper off on them, really...

Re: changing sidelight bulbs
changing drivers side sidelight bulb was a whole saga for me that involved several trips to mazda, 2 new front tyres a and a new arch liner (in future they will always be done by me rather than some hack in a stealer, it was not worth the ball ache getting them to admit to their cockup)
Thanks, Stu

Re: changing sidelight bulbs
I have fond memories of a Surrey meet a few months ago where Shaggy asked if I could swap one of his headlight bulbs. We looked at it from the engine bay, then decided that since I had the trolley jack and impact wrench in the boot (don't ask) it would be quicker just to jack the car up, remove the wheel, pull back the arch liner and go to town. Took us about 15 minutes with the right plan of attack.

Re: changing sidelight bulbs
they didn't fasten the arch liner back in properly and it ripped off the section under the drivers oil cooler which has a nice bit of metal in it all at 70 mph on the motorway..
they blamed flood water... on the drivers side... yet strangely the passenger side (which they didn't touch and had been encountering flood water) was absolutely fine...
Thanks, Stu

Re: changing sidelight bulbs
Passenger side takes seconds but the drivers side is a right pita, last time I had enough and so removed the battery tray and loosened the ecu to gain access.
I use a 5000k phillips w5w LED and it looks decent imo compared to the dull yellow oem bulbs.
Currently in the process of retrofitting some drl's into my lights which get in the way of the main beam so converting my sidelights into full beams, the heat generated (using some overdrivrn Cree XHP70's) means they need to be watercooled !
