Kids and the car

Post by bigpete8 »

This relates to my car (2007 SE) but for any dads (or mams) out there who need to carry a double buggy I can confirm the baby jogger city mini double fits with room to spare. - I was well surprised!!
Had to move the emergency wheel repair kit to the side but that was it - I even think it made the missus hate my RX8 a little less! ;)

Pete/Peter him/he/hrh couldn't really care as have 3 siblings and was lucky not to get called by the dogs name.

Pro-tip: the rear belt buckle is a PITA with a baby seat. You can swap it for a genuine Mazda 3 rear buckle for extra space.

EDIT: or use ISOFIX.

We've got 5yo and the rex is still our daily driver.

Also in terms of child seats I can tell anyone who says they are selling their rx8 due to new arrival don’t! Here are photos I took of my seats for a baby rear facing and a stage 2/3 seat. Both fit in grand. I do have to put the seats a little further fwd than normal and I am 5ft 11”. Buts it’s still comfortable to drive.

Seats are:
maxi cosi pearl
recaro Mako

We’ve had Annie’s 5 yr-old grandson in the back of an R3 in 4 different baby seats since he was a baby.

The latest seat is an isofix that is a bit fiddly to fit so we use the seat belt alone. That’s not ideal either, as getting at the seatbelt buckle is awkward with him in the seat, so as the lesser of 2 evils we pull the belt out round him rather than use the buckle.

I did think of an extension or a longer buckle mount but never got round to finding one.

Now back to one, a white R3. Gone but not forgotten: 04 Tit Grey 231, 06 Copper Red Evolve (231), 09 VR R3, 10 Aurora Blue R3, 06 Black PZ; RX87 13BREW project car ;-( ; 04 White with Greddy turbo conversion ;-(

Buying a used RX8 turbo is like marrying a stripper.
Beware - older people may be cr@p drivers but they can afford better lawyers

I probably need to update this guide with a few of the newer seats people have been talking about....

Still don't think that guide is quite right wrt isofix

Needs to make clear that you need top tether or extra leg support in footwell when issuing isofix.
(unless using just to stop seat moving around when child not held in with car seat belt)

Oh I thought I put that in when you mentioned it last time. I'll figure how how to edit and change it.

Sorry one more quick proof read, is it right on here? Maybe I didn't get the last edit across to the FAQ.
