I just tend to think "yeah but my car sounds like it wants to play at 4k whilst cruising, yours sounds like a dying giraffe".

LOL. I hate being in traffic that can't make up its mind between 30 and 40 as I'm up and down between 3rd and 4th like a yoyo... 4000 in 3rd is pointless for 40mph, but if you change up to 4th and then people slow down below 35 you need to change down again...

Mind you the other day, I was behind someone who was gradually speeding up and I was waiting for a good point to overtake. After being thwarted for several minutes, at 52mph I decided there was no point looking to overtake anymore (it was a stretch of 50) but only then did I realise I was still in 2nd...

Bluff.

Nobody drives at 35mph in 5th in an RX8... Surely? IMHO the RX8 feels unpleasantly sluggish at under 3000 rpm and by my reckoning you'd only be at about 2000.

Although maybe this is why I always have rubbish mpg figures!
Haha, you can, I don't often but it's possible, especially when your just cruising on an open road :) I do like the sound as Danbass says when it's cruising in 4th around the 4k Mark :)

I had a similar situation, but I did get pulled.

A BMW came up along side wanting a bit of fun, so I had a look around, gave him the nod, dropped a cog and went for it. There were no cars in front, it was totally safe, dry, warm, good conditions, smooth surface, see miles ahead etc.

Anyway, upon losing the race, a black A3 flashed it's blue lights at me, I had the same sinking feeling, pulled over, bottom lip out, clarkson style, but he was nice as pie, explained he's not a traffic cop, so can't do me anyway, but he saw I was having "a little thing back there", "with that other car", he highlighted some potential dangers and told me to be on my way.

So I wouldn't worry about it that much. He'd have gone after you anyway if he was interested...
In my experience you must've got lucky. I was in a car that was clocked and ticketed by a traffic cop in an unmarked BMW so they are out there. He caught up with us, pulled in front and showed us the blues.

They can be in unmarked cars in uniform. That happened to me on the A3 in 2008.

Sorry, going to be pedantic here cos I get a bit annoyed with scientific inaccuracies.
Different impurities in corundum give different colours. Ruby (red), sapphire (green, blue) are all corundum (aluminium oxide compound). They aren't isotopes.

You can't have a sapphire isotope as isotopes are variants of a single element ( eg carbon) that have the same atomic number but a different number of neutrons.

Here endeth the lesson. :study:

Oh dear, Will, you let yourself down there. [-X Once we get past the lack of a capital letter on the second word [-X , that phrase translates as "none of the unlawful are silicon carbide"

Whilst "Illegitimi non carborundum" may be just as cr@p Latin (it translates literally as "the unlawful are not silicon carbide"), there is no 'correct' version, as any Latin scholar will tell you (me, I've got an "O" Level in Latin, so there). However, being the first version and British, 'Illegitimi non carborundum' must take the prize.

There are many variants on the theme (see Wikipedia here).
For example, there are the following to choose from:
 Noli illegitimi carborundum
 Nil illegitimi carborundum
 Non illegitimis carborundum
 Illegitimi nil carborundum
 Nil b***** carborundum
 Nolite te b***** carborundorum
 Nil carborundum ab illegitimati
 Illegitimis non carborundum
 Nil illegitimo in desperandum carborundum
 Nil carborundum illegitamae
 Nolite Illegitimos Conterere Vos
 Non carborundum b*****

They should be banning those that do 30 in a 60 instead! causing tail backs and frustration which then causes people to make rash judgements on when to overtake......................whilst flicking the bird obviously.

I drive home on empty roads every night at 1 or 2am... Just had a nice chat with a police man in an unmarked Focus ST at the lights that was following me for about 2 miles at 40mph in a 30 zone. He said "nice car, just try and get it home in one piece mate."
