WHAT DOES THIS SWITCH DO?

Post by Pessimistic »

Its been driving me mad for a while trying to figure it out, i can't find it anywhere in the owners manual or in searches.
Its in the middle section first compartment where the cup holders are, there is a piece of trim that you can remove to adjust the handbrake and there is what looks like a bodged switch or a job by mazda not done well... i don't know any other rx-8's near me to check theirs out so thoguht id ask here.
Here is some pictures of it
Appreciate any help!

Follow the wire, and then tell us where it goes as we're all curious now! Although yes, i will agree with other that some sort of not particularly well done lighting mod or bodge repair switch. Crap place to mount it, who ever they are, they're a lazy git

I've seen ten year olds who can solder and heat shrink a cable  the fact it hasnt been neatly installed is a big no no from me. Some time and effort would have seen that placed between the two cupholders on the big plastic ident thingys etc. or secrect compartment....

Back to guessing what it is though....

Flamer kit?

Secret third rotor switch?

Electric fan intake thingy? (dear god i hope not)

Cup holder heater?

Pop up machine guns?

I know what that is for the yellow wires are the clue. Not many people are lucky enough to to have one of these. You must be delighted, well done I know this will really enhance your diving experience. I remember my friend having one and he went on and on about it for years. Do you want to sell it?

It can be used for controling devices they can turn them on and off. They can be fitted to numerous devices and located in so many places. Some people are really proud of them and put them on display on thier dashboard, others covert them and keep them hidden away from prying eyes, which seems to be what the previous owner of your switch did. And fitting it with yellow wires is very avant gard, none of the boring red or black for you. Well done.

It's a simple ignition cut off that has to be pressed to get the starter to turn. It also triggers the electrocution circuit in the heated seats if the engine is turned off before it's warmed up!
