^^ I read it and I'm surprised you're put off by someone who obviously knows nothing about engine management systems.

I'd really like Clive to come back here and explain what he thinks he wanted to tell us about this 3rd map... I'll get him on his forum.

I don't mind giving it a go instead, since all it does is making the throttle more responsive.
I'll read the previous posts to see what's involved in installing it.

I think I have got it in today's post: a white envelope which unfortunately I had to put in the boot of the car as I was on a rush to work and on the phone at the same time.
Will check later and let you know.

It was posted in France or Luxemburg.
The boot is not where it's supposed to go!

The accelerator pedal connector is right up the accelerator pedal assembly. It's one of these connectors that's hard to take off if you don't know how they work. In fact, you have to press on a tab that's on the side of the connector, near the cables. This tab is located in a recess between two small ridges.
Have a look at any connector under the bonnet first, if you want to see how the connector lock looks and feels like.
The sprint booster looks identical to the pedal connector. Fit it into the pedal connector, and then, fit the loom connector on top of it. Done.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers,

Well, had a go at it at my lunch brake, infact I didn't have any lunch and just had a go at it.

Well, yes, fitting it first time is a bit of a bummer, especially taking the connector off. I suppose it is easier on LHD cars, on RHD models the accelerator pedal assembly is so near the side that it is very hard to get a decent grip on the connector.

Anyway, once fitted, I started the car, no CEL, no problems, accelerator works fine.

But you can definitely tell the sprint booster is in place.

As far as I can tell, it does not make the accelerator linear, it just shortens it: basically any lag is still there but then the accelerator curve (if you imagine a plot with X axis being the pedal position, and the Y axis being the throttle aperture), is compressed: full throttle is less than an inch pressure away.

It definitely makes the car seem more powerful, but it soon becomes evident that it only emulates pressing the accelerator pedal quicker.

On a straight line it is just fine, infact 6th gear seems to have more pull because of the "kick" you get as soon as you press the accelerator, but on a bend, balancing the throttle to maintain or gain speed early becomes really hard and I certainly don't like that.

I fully disabled the DSC during my test as I did not want the system to be affected in any way.

It certainly was easy to keep up with the Focus RS on my side on full throttle up to imaginary speeds, but then, approaching a roundabout, I started to worry if this shortened accelerator would have unbalanced the car and cost me my life (remember DSC fully disengaged).
Fortunately I did not try and prove this theory.

As for heel and toe, it does not make it any easier for me since I have a h+t style which involves rotating the knee and press the accelerator with the heel and not just the side of my foot.

Driving around the company's carpark was kind of suicidal.

So, I decided not to use it and unless Fabrice agrees on another owner having a go at it and post it back, it will be in the post as soon as I have taken a few pictures at the weekend.

Regards,
Filippo

Filippo,

Thanks for the feedback. I'll forward it to its designers.

Keep it over the weekend. It takes some times to get used to it as you need to litterally recalibrate your right foot. It took me some time too. It might be true too for throttle balance in cornering but in this domain, I'm no expert driver. Try it a bit more (with DSC on please [-o< ).

Then, you can send it to someone else to try. Just let me know its whereabouts.

Cheers,

Thanks, f!

In the meantime, I have received the SP version of the Sprint Booster that I'll try on my car this weekend. It's part of a group buy we organised on the French forum.
Are you going to post the pictures?

The great thing about this car is how easy it is to balance the throttle in, erm, adverse conditions.

The 'orrible thing about other cars is that it's hard to finesse the throttle to match the amount of grip you have...

Why would you want to convert the RX8 from the former to the latter? If you need full beans then you need 5500 revs and your foot on the floor - full throttle opening is pointless under any other conditions anyway, and is probably a good way to coke up your plugs!

^^ It does not open the throttle fully (unless you request WOT with he pedal). It just increases the aggressiveness of the throttle progression. It can predominantly be felt under part throttle acceleration, and low revs during normal driving.
20 owners from the French forum (in 190 and 230 ps versions) use it every day and seem pleased with it, although such a device might not be to everybody's taste.
I personnally like the car as it is, but some like the extra performance feel at low revs with the Sprint Booster.

Cheers,

Hi all of you

i habe bought Sprint Booster from Rasputin, and i am very pleased of it.

i drive a 192 RX8 and so i took the SP version of the SB and i am now completly used to it.

if you people doubt about it : BMW and VAUXHALL have exactly the same sort of results with their SPORT buttons (on E46 M3 and Astra for example)

it just takes away all the inertia on the accelerator as if accelerator response was quicker, it helps losing less time when accelerating and changing gears.

i have also tried a HP version of the SB on my 192 and i must say it is tremendous cause really "violent", i am even now thinking of exchanging one of my friends HP against my SP since i always loved sporty driving (even if it will surely lack comfort in traffic jams)

i thing Sprint Booster is just a matter of feelings , some don't like it since they don't drive agressivly, but some others like me who always "want more" think that it is the best quality/performance/priced stuff on the market.
