Metra Kit - stereo update - power cable splitter?

Post by CherryTreePZ »

Hi

I've searched but can't find anything. Hope one of you Geniuses may be able to help.

Not ure where best to post so I've opted for here and DIY. I'm new, so please bear with if that's wrong.

I have a Feb 07 PZ on a 56 plate.

As many have before me, I am upgrading the entertainment system from a 6 CD Changer to a touch screen head unit.

I have the Metra kit with the AC integration cabling. I also have the amp integration harness to bypass the head unit amp and keep my Bose system in play.

Finally I have the steering wheel control integration harness and a universal patch cable.

My problem is that I cannot find a way of getting power to BOTH the Access AC integration module AND the new (Kenwood) head unit at the same time.

One or the other needs to be connected to the main car harness and there is no combination of cables which I can come up with which gets power to both, simultaneously.

Am I missing something simple, or is there a power cable splitter which will enable me to fit the amp integration harness and the steering wheel control harness as well?

If I haven't given enough info just let me know and I will do my best to give more.

Thanks in anticipation!

For a single wire, I’d be inclined to simply splice into the harness (properly, with solder and heat shrink).

Thanks - I need to bypass the Kenwood preamp/ amp so I can use the factory fitted Bose amp (or so I've been told).

That harness appears to require a direct connection to the main socket. If that's in use by the AC harness, how do I manage the amp integration harness?

I don't think a "single wire" connection would work, would it?

Thanks

Ah, I misunderstood. I thought you simply needed to get 12v accessory power to both at the same time and were otherwise sorted. I'm with you now, I think. From the Axxess install doc I'm looking at here, it appears as though the amp bypass and power to the HU are both supposed to be handled by the Axxess unit. Without knowing exactly what head unit you've got, it's a bit hard to say how applicable that doc is to your situation though. I don't suppose you could provide links or pics of the various bits you've got?

The steering wheel controls are relatively straightforward - the buttons on the wheel apply a differing level of resistance across a pair of pins (N and P in the attached pinout) depending on which button is pressed. If the adaptor you have for this is a straight-up wiring harness with no control box, that would imply that the Kenwood is expecting a similar sort of input. I'd suggest tracing which pins on the HU get connected to those pins on the factory harness by your adaptor, then recreating that connection by splicing a pair of jumper wires around the Axxess unit completely.

Thank you so much - that's very helpful. I'll work through that when I can.

In particular I'm interested in the possibility that the Axxess module may be intended to power the head unit also.

If that's the case then that might get me to a solution - but I'll need to extract the unit again and I can't do that till the weekend.

Thanks again for taking the time to think about this and respond.

Regards

TOP TIP

When posting on forums, only quote previous message if...
- you're quoting only the segment in a longer message that you're referring to.
- the thread has multiple interleaved dialogues and the post you're referencing is not immediately above.

Excess quoting, especially simply repeating everything, makes threads very difficult to follow and is bad forum form.

Hello

My bad - sorry. Another forum I'm on automatically quotes every post so I guess I was just following that habit.

Won't happen again.
