Hi, I'll try to make this short and sweet for starters but if responses are positive I will have a list of questions as long as your proverbial.
Been driving RX8's since 2010, (2006 Copper Red Evolve, 2005 192, 2005 Tit Grey, 2010 R3) and never done a track day...……..shame on me

Been to the Three Sisters track a few years ago for an experience day driving a Gallardo and a F430 with an instructor constantly telling me to pull over to let the single seaters by

Really want to come to this event but need plenty of advice from experienced club members....................help !

If there's a trackday to start on, I'd suggest one like this. You'll have a huge amount of support from a lot of club members! I think we have a beginner's guide somewhere too

Edit: Have a look through here viewforum.php?f=169

Hi Adam, I intend having a couple of tuition lessons at my nearest track (Knockhill) in the near future but really need a newbie guide regarding car requirements/PPE/insurance.
Thanks for the link :thumright:

I currently have 2 cars ( 231 S1 & R3)
My weapon of choice will be the 231 S1.
It is lowered with Tein Street Basis / fully poly bushed / 20mm spacers / F&R Whiteline sway bars / alignment/geometry set up for fast road track use.
Think it could be ready for some fun, just need to improve my meagre driving abilities to realise the potential of the car.

Hi Craig. I can honestly say that this is one of the best opportunities you will have to improve track driving skills in your own car. As an exclusive track day with your club, it offers a lot control over the event compared to a public track day.

Not knowing your level of experience, this is a good starting point for information and covers a lot of issues (click on it to follow the link)

viewtopic.php?f=169&t=61939

If you don't have your own helmet, you can purchase one before the event, plenty of advice on helmets to be found on the link that Adam posted up above. OR, you can turn up and hire one on the day for ~£10.

There will be plenty of experienced track drivers available on the day for you to passenger with, and for them to passenger with you. Overtaking rules will be explained, along with many other points, at a compulsory safety briefing at the very start of the day.

Any other questions, just fire away :D

I can only echo what Malcolm posted above. My first taste of being on track was with Ian Mothersole about 4 years ago at Castle Combe and the first time through Quarry corner really surprised me with the speed, the sideways G etc; later that morning I was in my own car and considerably slower but you quickly learn the lines and overtaking rules so you don’t get surprised by passing cars.
You car is certainly ready for the track with those mods and will handle very well with minimal body roll.
The atmosphere at the track will be great and the evening dinner is a great social occasion to follow it and on the Sunday its the AGM which can either be a roller coaster and smooth sailing event and either way should not be missed.
See you there.

RX-8 is pretty much ready for track, all you need to check is the amount of tread on your tyres is above 4mm ideally, you have a good set of pads with lots of life left and reasonable discs. Check all your fluids etc and get a helmet and you are ready.

If your serious about doing more get a cg lock of the club shop with the discount to keep you from sliding about in the seat

Last AGM I had only owned the RX8 for two months and it was the first time I took it out in anger. Track days are not really that bad in all honesty I think it's far worse and more dangerous flying around some back roads in it than going around a track in a controlled environment.

Also just for info if you just want to do things by yourself i.e have a go around track and get a feel of it yourself no one will force advice on you unless you ask so don't think you will turn up and think it's a school day all over again, people are there to help and will have loads of advice but it won't be rammed down your neck. TBF I prefer doing things on my own so tuition and stuff isn't really much fun lol why let someone have all the fun when you can learn yourself and get all the bad habits Image

It was a while before I had some tuition and the subtle difference in techniques made my track days more enjoyable not to mention safer and quicker.

Thanks to all for the advice and links.
As a newbie to track I'm obviously full of trepidation but as previously stated I intend to take some tuition at Knockhill prior to this event.
Trying my car out on track is something I've wanted to do for some time now, so I'm going to take the plunge and I'm sure that I will receive the best of advice and support from the members of this fabulous club.

I was there today for a track day today so thought I'd give you a little heads up on what it's like there. I spent 90% of the lap just in second gear only in one point which is the back straight was I able to change to third. I was able to keep up with and sometimes pass cars with much better power or weight including several Type R Honda's, focus ST, even outdoing an evo x at one point (although I'm pretty sure he must have just been a bad driver) the only things that were faster were stripped out little citroen saxo and similar because they are extremely light and nimble through the corners but on straights there wasn't much that was faster. If you've got a good set of stiff coilovers and proper sports tyres you'll do really well here.
