2022 Annual Meet / Blyton Park (possible Location)

***2022 Annual Meet / Blyton Park (possible Location)***

XSP_80461.jpg

Your committee are currently looking at our Annual Meet in 2022 and would like feedback on how many members would be interested in the following proposal. Details are obviously not finalised at this stage, so there may be some changes if this were to go ahead. For instance, we may add options for a drive out or other social event on the Sunday morning for those staying overnight :thumleft:

DATE: Saturday 8th October 2022
VENUE: Blyton Park Lincolnshire.
DAY ACTIVITY: Semi-exclusive trackday, shared with the MX-5 OC at Blyton Park.
https://www.blytonpark.co.uk/
Outer-Circuit.jpg
Outer-Circuit.jpg (153.23 KiB) Viewed 988 times

EVENING ACTIVITY: A private evening dinner, possibly at the Forest Pines Hotel (~20 minutes from Blyton Park):
https://www.forestpineshotel.co.uk/about-us/

images.jpg
images.jpg (9.69 KiB) Viewed 988 times

Of course, members would be welcome to both the trackday and the dinner, or to either event, whatever takes your fancy =D>

The MOT trackday would be run in Open Pit Lane format for the majority of the day, with possibly one or two 20 minute “novice” sessions after the lunch break (if there is interest). This session would be reserved for those new to track driving and would operate with a very limited number of cars on the circuit. The session would begin with two laps behind a pace car, to show you the track and the optimal lines to take through corners, then you are free to continue on your own, but we will offer an experienced track driver in your passenger seat to give advice, if requested. If you have never driven your car on track this is an ideal opportunity to safely explore its limits. The RX-8 is a joy to drive on track, handles superbly and is very forgiving :thumleft:

Full, compulsory, safety briefings will be given to all drivers, whether experienced or novice via online video =D>

Blyton Park is one of the best circuits to drive if anyone is nervous about track driving. Many parts of the track have tarmac run-offs, or ploughed fields, in the highly unlikely event of anyone running off the circuit #-o

Prices for the full OPL day is estimated to be:
  • £149 for members, £165 for non members (20 cars signed up)
  • £139 for members, £155 for non-members (24 cars signed up)
  • £129 for members, £145 for non-members (28 cars signed up)
Price for a 20 minute novice is estimated to be:
  • £25 for members, £30 for non members
Please respond to the poll above and we would welcome any comments you may wish to post below :thumleft:

I did one of these Blyton Club days with FD:OC this summer. We had 24 cars and the result was a very quiet track with only 6 allowed at at one time. Lots of running possible.

Given that Blyton is a narrow track with limited overtaking for the second half of the lap, this is a good format.

Shameless video to show how quiet it was.

2022 Annual Meet / Blyton Park (possible Location)

Post by GreySilver Beast »

Just a reminder to everyone, we also need your vote regarding the Annual Meet in order that we can see it's viable to hold it up North next year  , so even if you aren't interested in the trackside, your vote will still count in our decision making on behalf of all the paid up club members :thumleft:

Many thanks for your continued support so far =D>

We will need the MX-5 OC to join us, Alan. The prices quoted are based on us taking ~20-28 places and the MX-5 OC doing the same, so 40-56** cars in total. If we to go it alone with 20 cars, the prices would have to be doubled, = a non-starter.

We need at least 40 cars to make this work.

We are still awaiting the MX-5 OC position. Their Motorsport Coordinator is keen on the idea, but we have not yet had the formal agreement of their club to our proposal.

At some point we, as a club, will need to contract in advance and pay towards the full cost of the day. We, as a club alone, could not risk contracting to the full cost, but could "risk" 50% on the basis of the numbers we are seeing here.

**for comparison, Brands Hatch is a similar length circuit and our December trackday there is limited to 60 cars and works well, with minimal queuing for tracktime.

Oh that's not what I expected. Blyton have two price options. I assume you're looking at full OPL, but they also do Club days at much cheaper rates, for up to 24 cars in total.

This is what FD:OC did in August and the total was just over £3k, or about £160pp. This was arranged by approaching the circuit directly rather than there being any TDO middle man

The only downside is that, I think our club could fill more than 24 places, but 60ish at a place like Blyton seems too many. Brands is wider and has more passing opportunities.

Re: 2022 Annual Meet / Blyton Park (possible Location)

£3k for Blyton was an excellent price. Problem is, we wouldn't get a club day on a Saturday, which we need if we make it an Annual Meet weekend and Saturdays carry a very heavy premium.

One advantage with using a TDO is insurance. We spent a lot of time securing insurance at our previous exclusive events at Castle Combe and Three Sisters. The paperwork we needed to complete for Three Sisters in particular was quite onerous and time consuming. We also decided to book cancellation insurance at Castle Combe as the circuit contract offered no refund in case of inclement weather. We almost needed it due to the heavy fog that greeted us and stuck around for a couple of hours!

Blyton is not as wide as Brands, but plenty enough width and places for overtaking. The TDO has actually said 54 is the max he will take, and I'm happy that will be fine. The reason I quoted up to 28 is if the MX-5 OC struggle and we have more demand, we can flex the 50/50 cost by mutual agreement.

I am definitely interested, I am sure the R3 will be in fine form well and truly by then 😂
I haven't been on a track in a car before, but have had a fair number of race & track days on bikes, though its been about 5 years since I was last on a track. Not sure if I'd need to sign up to the novice session or not, but I wouldn't want to miss the morning session in any case.

Jason, no need for the novice session if you have experience of being on a track and want more than just a session, book the full Open Pit Lane.

It's harder to fall off in a car, so you'll be fine
