Harry's blue Mazda 2!

Post by HarSc »

New car day yesterday! 8)

Picked up a Mazda 2 1.5L Sport 5 door in the lovely blue colour (also on some MX-5s I believe :-k). Not perfect by any means, has it's fair share of bruises and bumps around the edges, but mechanically sound/maintained and came with some extra goodies :p  140 mile drive back with a detour for some tyres, but did as good as you can ask.

It feels like it just sips fuel... That gauge doesn't even go down, I swear! It's nothing like the 8 in terms of guzzling, and it still has a bit of poke  It's in dire need of a clean and a bit of TLC, but should scrub up ok hopefully and will serve me as a decent little runabout. Gunna be doing a few odd mods to it here and there, so i'll be popping them in here 8)

This was yesterday - but only just got to posting

Planning to put a proper head unit in the car, but for now there's a connects 2 Bluetooth adapter so I can at least enjoy some songs that aren't just on the radio  that and breathing easy with some fresh cabin air filters! Also on the list is some new floor mats along with a good clean! =D>

Tell you what, the dash comes apart damn easily! 2 pop clips, 4 screws total   took me all of 5 mins! :D

And this evenings job - first wash! 8)

It's still a bit filthy from when it was collected, and the extra 140 miles didn't help with the rain either  looking much better now, did a fairly deep clean of the outside, plates off and roof trims out. Will plan to do a full on decontamination and polish some point in the near future to get it looking it's best, but for now that'll do!

Need to do the inside as the next job :^o but I'll get there :paranoid:

Also need to get the stickers and the residue off, aiming to find some replacement badges as the originals had been taken off, but that's for future Hazza to do

Aye, yeah. Really liking this so far, perfect sorta car for a runabout. Time will tell, got to get the main annual policy for it sorted as i have been driving it on temp insurance to get it home, so I'll be back out in it soon when that's sorted 8)

TW Whites & Sons gave me the keys to a New Mazda 2 Sport 1.5lt in Green Metallic when the car was first released to go off and see what the car was like to drive for about 20mins

Took the Mazda 3 MPS MKII in for some warranty work that day and was a while you wait job, hence why they chunked the keys at me

Hah! Bet that was a fun little wait for the work to be done

Would have loved a 3 sport/nonMPS model, was a bit torn on that front, but then again they cost more to get, cost more to insure (amusingly enough) and the 2 still did everything I needed it to do. plus it looks cute hahah. Wouldn't dare get an MPS with an RX-8. they're as bad as each other! Neither are a daily

I would argue that the RX8 only makes sense used as a daily! It makes the road tax less expensive

Nice Mazda 2, look forward to seeing you put your stamp on it :thumleft:

Both the RX8 and the Jeep are £630 pa for VED and I am doing well to get 28mpg from the Jeep, currently using it for work as we are waiting for a new engine for one of the vans, so it's doing about 600 miles a week😪😪

I remember that MPS, on the old Breakfast Runs, as a rolling roadblock going around the corners and then pulling away down the straights :race:

Properly insured, sorted and on the road again this evening with an annual policy! Woop 8) day insurance is definitely good when you need it especially when buying, cheap enough to make it damn useful :D Now to find somewhere to take this little go kart on a spin hah

So! This easter weekend i've been cracking on with some jobs on the 2 - oil & filter change, lift up the front end coilovers, give it a good tidy up inside, get the dashcam wired up and ready to get working, and last but not least - get the armrest installed 8)

So! Oil change is lovely and simple - went for some Shell Helix 5w30 and a bog standard bosch filter. Simple as! Oil was rather black so i'm glad I was doing it - one thing being the crush washer was absolutely obliterated and completely toast, must have been used and reused numerous times! So it got treated to a fresh one in my stash from the 8 since they're the same size  ain't gunna leak on me, nope! Will likely do it either once every year or 5k miles, which ever comes first, since it's cheap enough to do and nice to keep on top of 8)

Coilovers have been raised up by 1.5cm to begin with - but as soon as they hit the ground again, I realised they still need to go up even more  #-o so i'll likely be doing another 1.5/2cm too - get it levelled out with the rear end =D>

Inside was a bit mucky, but as I needed to take all the bits out to wire the dashcam (didn't want to go the headliner route since the cable was long enough, and not as easy as in the 8 with no B pillar!) I did a much deeper clean of all crevices I could get to. nice and dirt free again for now (well, apart from the mud on the door, i'll get to that bit :D)

Still to get the rear dashcam properly mounted and the cable tidied on the boot end, it's through the weather stripping part, just how to route it. Also didn't want the camera half way down the glass since that's where it would have to be due to the dotted bit at the edges blocking the camera angle :-k needs sorting that one, but in due time.

And the armrest! Thanks very much to Darius for that one, but now have a nifty little rest and cubby spot for anything I could ever wish for. Makes it a lovely comfy place to be along with the cloth 8 seats. Can't wait to do some long drives in it haha

Bit of progress still to be made on the dashcam and faffing with the fusebox to get it on it's own circuit, but i'll get that sorted soon :p and then up next will be a head unit when that arrives! Has been ordered this weekend so hopefully doesn't take too long from China! Ooooh, and new floor mats too!

With the oil being that black I'd be looking to do another oil change soon, even if you don't replace the filter.

Detergents in modern oils mean that it can at least flush some more muck out, if you wait 50-100 miles between changes.

So! Went on a bit of a trek up to Newcastle today in the 2, picking up a bunch of parts (and oversized ornaments), 250 miles in total. Car did brilliantly, apart from half way home the Bluetooth stopped working so I had to make do with normal radio

Was in Ben's neighborhood so I made sure to nip round and have a chat :giggle: Awesome day all in all, bit late home, but the 2 stood up to the test! :D

Confused here! You live in Doncaster and Ben in Lancaster yet you found yourself in his neighbourhood when you went to Newcastle. My brain cannot put that geography together!

Confused here! You live in Doncaster and Ben in Lancaster yet you found yourself in his neighbourhood when you went to Newcastle. My brain cannot put that geography together!
Apologies Chris, this is my fault!

At the beginning of March I bought my first house and relocated myself to just south of Newcastle!
Since then I've been super busy so haven't had time to update my profile or do anything on the OC really. :(
But I will do it now to save people confusion :)
Ben
