Capri uncertainty.

Post by goodeggbob »

Evening all,i am testing the water here, and wondering whether anyone is in the market for a Ford Capri 2.8 injection?
i have come to the conclusion that i simply can't give all these cars i have the attention they deserve, and i am doing non of them any favours by simply sitting on them. if anyone is genuinely interested, feel free to send me a pm ,rob

A hard choice to make Rob but good on you for hopefully releasing one back into the wild. I'm sure you'll find a good owner to take care of it.

Ah it's a shame to lose any of them, but it's for the best as long as it goes to a good home :)

The 2.8i was always my favourite. Just missed out on having one as a company car, as I didn't get promoted until just after they came off the scheme.

I would agree you have 2x rx8 one can go.
Cheaper to get another rx8 if surcomstances change.

Exactly in the short term the Capri is also going to keep going up in value and it's going to take a lot longer for the rx8 to increase in value. I know that's not always the main aim but it's something to consider. Rx8s are plentiful capris are not.

Unfortunately this is the hold that these mazdas have over me. this ,believe it or not has nothing to do with finance ,it is simply maintenance,as i happened to stumble on the mazdas before the dreaded rust had had a chance to get a hold of em,and keeping them that way is going to be no problem for me. the capri on the other hand is much more of a challenge however, given that they are almost 40yrs old.
My plan would be to sell one of my capri's and let someone who has the time it deserves take it on.
I simply need to put my own feelings aside and reluctantly do what is best for the car.
At the moment i am busy preparing an advert to place on ebay, but the real gut wrencher will be activating the advert to go live, this i think will be a real test of my resolve, rob.

Have you looked at the classic car sale sites or tried the Capri forums?

Might find that it will go into a safer pair of hands for a few more quid than eBay.

I agree with John. Either a classic car site or such would be better than Ebay. Any mug whose not an enthausist could buy it and do it worse than you'd hope for!

Believe it or not,i would not expect just anyone to buy it,the market seems to be dictated by people who want a ford capri, because they want a ford capri not just a random car. i am still even now ,even after owning an rx8 for nearly three years.wondering how the hell i became so besotted with them, but i obviously am,as they have managed to capture my attention away from a car i have loved for over 40yrs.
I will however take the sound advice you are all offering, even though you are making the decision harder to make, and it wouldn't take much to change my mind.

@ROB : The reason why I liked the RX-8 so much was because of the shape of the Ford Capri :P

Capri & RX-8 = Short Boot Lid
Capri & RX-8 = Long Bonnet
Capri & RX-8 = Similar Side Profile

It's a funny thing Rob I'm doing the opposite at the minute weighing up selling the RX-8 to fund more work on my Pulsar but not really that keen on getting rid. But other than track days and shows I dont really have that much desire to drive it on the road, other than the wales drives which I enjoyed.

I think i have had my doubts about all this answered now. having advertised my plan around a few mates and capri forums,i was actually shocked by most of the replies i had. most were offering well i excess of what i was expecting, regardless of which one i would sell, and many were prepared to do a deal over the phone having seen pictures and a verbal description without even wishing to see it.
obviously, this has got me thinking, and have come to the conclusion that they are not for sale,so a few alterations to the priorities are required, but it wont be at the expense of my kuro's.

You have yourself a very sort after asset mate take care of them and you will have a nice investment ticking over much better than any bank could give you.
