Good to see you keeping them.

I had an LHD German spec 2.3L Capri for a while back in 1986. I never could parallel park correctly as the Recaros sat low and exacerbated the bonnet length.

The 2.8i I drove later was far better. I’d love one, but my R3 is all I need and want for now. They’re definitely collectible now, which means there are some silly prices around.

Now back to one, a white R3. Gone but not forgotten: 04 Tit Grey 231, 06 Copper Red Evolve (231), 09 VR R3, 10 Aurora Blue R3, 06 Black PZ; RX87 13BREW project car ;-( ; 04 White with Greddy turbo conversion ;-(

Buying a used RX8 turbo is like marrying a stripper.

My brother had a 2.8 Capri in the eighties. It was the first car that either of us owned that could actually accelerate above 100mph rather than just gather speed if you know what I mean.
His was an early 4 speed one which I believe actually accelerated up to 60 quicker than the later 5 speed due to the gearing.
It was immaculate, another one of those that in hindsight you would have stored away somewhere rather than selling.

The Imp needed two in the front to stop it understeering straight across wet roundabouts.

So, here is the nearly finished Capri. It has had a below the side trim colour change and a good compound polish today, the results are brilliant.
Just need to refurd the matt black window trims and door handles to look perfect. No doubt Simon will give it the once over tomorrow, rob.

Such a cool looking car the car the Capri, you could sell your 8's and pump the proceeds in to the Capri, you'd have a minter that you could just put in to storage and watch the value sky rocket 8)

I had a 2.0 automatic Capri back in the day (NLH14P) but always wanted the 2.8i with the round lights.

Capri envy going on here.

Thanks Ian, being the eternal optimist i reckon the rx8 will go the same way as the Capri, hit rock bottom which i reckon happened about 18 months ago, start to rise slowly, with used spares becoming scarcer because like the capri, there is more value in a complete car with log book, fall into the hands of enthusiasts who appreciate them for what they are, with breakers becoming increasingly scarce.

Ah! Capri uncertainty!

My brother had a Triumph Spitfire and he decided he needed a bit more room so he swapped it for a 1300GT Capri as he wanted then to retain something with a bit of performance anyway he was never very mechanically minded and it was several weeks before I got to see this Capri and it although it was not a car of my personal choice none the less in blue with a vinyl roof and Rostyle wheels it looked the part, anyway I looked over said Capri and asked him what it goes like to which he replied it's OK but not as fast as his Spitfire to which I replied well it is not a light weight car and with only a 1300 engine in it similar to the small Spitfire it was never going to win any contests was it.

So persuading him to give me the keys for a test drive I pulled away from my parents house and drove about 20 yards to find this Capri was absolutely gutless so I stopped and reversed back to my parents house, I then got out and flipped the bonnet and then took the oil filler cap off the rocker cover to find it was absolutely belching out black smoke I showed my brother and I said "it's knackered mate absolutely clapped out!"

To cut a long story it turned out that the dealer that he bought the Capri from found the original engine was clapped and he had a spare engine lying about which he had fitted it was a Ford engine and it looked the same only it turned out it was a clapped out 1100 Escort engine!

Take it from me a Ford Capri 1300 GT with a clapped 1100 engine was not what Ford had in mind in the performance car stakes!
