so its time my other car had its own project thread...

picked my new car up today. a 2013 astra j 1.7 with stop start (allegedly, not seen any evidence of SS yet... only driven it 100 yds though!)

got the tools out this evening as i wanted to see how bad the metal under the skin was going to be.

good news, all ok!

just need to cut a sill section out of a scrapper and off we go!

i think the sill and lower rear quarter panel are the same on the hatch and estate, the sill is the same partnumber anyway... so as there are 5 in a scrapyard near me, i might wander over with the cutout section and a grinder on sunday....

amusingly ive got the ‘incident report’

it seems a copy was accidentally left in the fleet folder, im fairly sure it was accidental, as it has ‘confidential’ written everywhere

it seems it was reversed into by a fire engine.

no huge surprise there, if a little ironic...

Picture the scene...

Fireman Sam: "I hate that bloody Astra, can't we get something else?"
SO Steele: "No Son, it's still got a couple of years on the lease"
Fireman Sam: "I've got an idea.... "

[-X

just decided to do some insurance checking whilst i was waiting for fibreglass to cure,

i have the laguna the rx8 and my house insured with axa, as its nice and cheap for home insurance, and every car gets 25% discount because of the home insurance, plus another 25% on the second car policy due to the multicar discount, which makes my total bill some 300 cheaper than insuring separately with the cheapest providers on compare the market. sometime it doesn't pay to shop around! :)

anyway the point of this is... cost of changing the insurance for the laguna over to the astra is a whopping...

£2.30

i can live with that :D

any one who has painted at any level of competence knows how much of a pain mica can be, not because of the colour match, but because it changes colour slightly if you paint from left to right, diagonally or up and down, so the final coat has to be painted in the same direction they did it in the factory....

and i doubt anyone at toyota knows so how could a idiot like me :D

plus darker mica's are worse!

Even slight changes in the humidity level can change the way that mica goes down.

Spray in a booth with the door open and one end of the car will be different to the other #-o

Jay had to respray the bodykit parts again because the match wasn't there :(

Same thing happened when the rear corner of the bumper was resprayed when the car was being Detailed last Summer :!:

Thank you James :P
