Good on you for offering to help her out and getting an independent assessment of the car so that you both come out fairly. I hope this makes the driver realise the risk they're putting themselves and others in driving in an unfit state.

Seriously Nigel, if you don't tell the insurance company about her statement where she said she was recovering from a stroke then I hope the guys at the Toyota dealership do. Having nearly been hit by someone suffering from a medical condition and witnessing the destruction of the accident that followed it is could genuinely save a life

Is she recovering from a stroke and not driving legally though though? Is that what she said, or was it that she has recently recovered from a stroke and has been cleared to drive again? We could be accusing her of doing something wrong that isn't the case.

Glad you're getting it sorted and going through the insurance. But was kind of you to give the other driver the choice and go to the effort of getting an independent valuation Nigel.

Shame it will mean you losing your car while it's repaired. I hope the repairer will collect it from your home and deliver it back to you. I know from too much experience how much time and money being the victim in an accident can take once you add it all up.

Chris Knott Insurance are arranging an Automatic Loan Car for me to use while mine goes in for repair Haydn :thumleft:

This of course gets added to the bill :!:

Then for the next 5years after the car has been repaired, I then have to declare this accident, even though it's not my fault on every renewal policy taken out, plus also on my Dads Insurance :!: :!:

I believe Chris Knott are contacting Motorline Gatwick to obtain the CCTV footage from Saturday 8th February :thumleft:

They already have Photographs that I have supplied and will get the other ones off Toyota Gatwick :thumleft:

Please Note everyone, I am NOT allowed to contact the other driver in any shape of form or except correspondence from the other party :!:

Jeez Shaggy. What are the shareholders of FlaminTorches-R-Us and Pitchfork Depot going to make of suggestions like that?

This appears to be a simple car park bump, albeit a pretty expensive one - they happen 100s of times a day to all sorts of people. For example, I once witnessed someone reverse into a 5 foot high wall that was directly behind them, minding its own business. Whats more, the wall was entirely stationary :!: They were not old (although the wall was) or had a stroke in their medical history to the best of my knowledge. It happens. It is frustrating but it will be fixed - car is drivable as I guess we will see in a couple of weeks and will be good as new soon enough. ;)

It's very annoying about the insurance penalizing you even when it's a no fault claim.

Jess had the same issue in the first year of passing her test and LV wouldn't award her first years no claims even though it was not her fault and the other driver was actually prosecuted by the police.

Yes, admitadly that is annoying. The insurance guys just calculate numbers based on risk and supposedly the stats show that someone who has been in an accident, irrespective of fault, is more likely to be involved in another within 12 months.

Hopefully tho, there is some nuance to that so this kinda thing doesnt get swept up in that. [-o<

My car will be going in for repair with another approved Toyota Repairer on Tuesday 3rd March and an Automatic Hire Car is being arranged from Eurocar while mine is off the road :thumleft:

The car could of gone off for repair next week, but that is cutting it a bit to fine for the Annual Meet Weekend, especially if the Indicator LED Light is damaged :!:

So had to get the car cleaned today as Chris Knott Insurance requested a whole load of photos of the paintwork and damaged area of the car again, also the inside of the GT86 as well showing the mileage :thumleft:

GT86 going in for repair on Tuesday 3rd March at a Toyota Approved Repairer and a hire car has been organised from Enterprise =D>

Been informed by Enterprise that the hire car will be something like a Mercedes-Benz C class as I require an Automatic  :P =D>

Will hopefully take just over a week to return my car back to what it was before she hit the car :thumleft:

That level of damage yo the wing and bumper could be sorted perfectly by a “Smart Repair” specialist I am sure. It never ceases to amaze me that insurance assessor “engineers” specify new panels requiring full paint jobs plus the huge expense of the panels themselves. In you case potentially no painting required at all and just a day off the road.

GSB III 03/08/13 - Present

Post by GreySilver Beast » Fri Feb 14, 2020 1:46 pm

That's the problem when a repair goes through Insurance Chris or another vehicle/driver is involved :( , because a repair is always cheaper when no one else is involved within the claim :!:

Another problem bumpers are designed to take some impact within reason, but once it gets beyond that point the only option left is a New Bumper and in this case is why they are saying it needs to be replaced as it has also moved, the Wing is beyond repair as it has also moved into the drivers door area :(

In order for all the existing paint to match up requires half the car to be resprayed right up to the windscreen and beyond wings and both doors #-o

Total bill including the hire car with insurance is now in the region of £3,500

Just renewed my Car Insurance today and this Accident hasn't effected it as none of it was my fault =D> =D> =D> =D>

Yeah, that's a good point Nigel. When I saw your car the other day, could see the wing had moved as it was out of line and the panel gaps showed it had moved too. Thought it looked odd The bumper is also deformed at the bottom as well but not so obvious unless you look close up and at the right angle.

Some strange posts here.

Nigel has a legal and moral right to be put back in the position he was in before the incident but not to any compensation for inconvenience. If any repairs unavoidably result in him gaining is incidental. FWIW I’m sure Nigel knows all of this and is playing with a straight bat.

If the other driver was driving illegally or inadvisably then that is her responsibility and Nigel should not change his behaviour otherwise. I have friends who’ve been hurt in motorcycle accidents through other drivers’ driving when they shouldn’t through I’ll health. A man was killed opposite my flat 20 years ago by an elderly man who was driving illegally after having his licence revoked for ill health. I have quite the opposite of sympathy for her.

Body panels pop out after damage, often leaving expensive structural damage behind. A proper assessment is always needed. My neighbour hit one of my cars; after I got estimates and the repair was done through her insurer, with 3/4 of the cost being for damage behind the bumper.

Claiming on your insurance may not necessarily cost you as some insurers don’t count a claim if they are refunded in full. However, even no-fault incidents may affect future premiums, for the simple reason that anyone with one will on average cost an insurer more for 5 years afterwards; whether or not your premium goes up depends on the insurer.

Nope, nothing to do with the Accident as the Lady Driver never hit the Front Wheel as I have a habit of always turning my wheels when parking a car =D>

Very rarely do I park a car with the Wheels being straight, unless the car is parked on a level flat surface :!:

Well one of my New Tyres were flat this Morning so Adam pumped it back up from 10psi to 36psi :!:

Then once got to Cadwell Park it had deflated :!:

MightyCondor very kindly changed over the Front Wheel and put on the Brand New Kumho KU39 Spare from the Boot :thumleft:

I still have another Spare KU39 Tyre at home, but will get the PS71 checked in case it's just a sealing issue :!: :!:

Good thing you keep a proper spare! Hope you take it easy around Cadwell with unmatched rubber though.
