It was taken at a AROC Sprint Event at North Weald aerodrome in 1982. As I was both driving and taking the photos, there was none of me in action, until the monthly magazine came out
Very long story but the insurance repair did pay for having the rear wheels arches converted back to standard, though the car wasn't ready in time for the event.
We'd were hiring an Astra GTE most weekends, paid for by insurance, and I was looking forward to using that for the event.
However, one the day the Astra had a cracked screen so we were ungraded to a Calton.
By lunchtime, we were second in the non-Alfa class behind an Innocenti Mini Cooper, driven by an Italian "works" driver - who was over staying with a friend - and ahead of a Ferrari
At the end of the day, the Ferrari had given up, so we got 2nd in class and, I can't remember, overall.
We did get a phone call from the Service Manage at the Vauxhall dealership, the day after dropping the Calton back, asking if "everything had been okay?" Apparently the tyres looked like they'd been attacked with a cheese grater! Such was (is) the coarse surface at North Weald and I'd pumped the tyres up to 40 psi to keep them on the rims....
This is how the Alfa looks now...
