Starting to sound like a personal attack brewing so maybe reign it in a bit for the evening

Just to point out kopite has stated what we were all told by the government ref diesel and not stating that any ICE is clean

No ICE is clean, none, nada, point I'm making is that a decade or more ago Govt's were telling people to go diesel because it was cleaner/greener which was a load of crap.Greener and or cleaner than what? They are filthy, every man and his dog knows is but they were bought en masse because people believed the rubbish spouted by govt's around the globe.

Combustion by it;s very nature is not clean no matter what guise it comes in so for people to believe that diesel's were somehow greener ( than what? ) really amazes me,are people really that stupid? It would appear that they are.

As for " getting past Lithium" I don't want to get past anything.I'm more than happy to drive ICE's til the day I die

I agree with this - it feels a bit like a difference in opinion gets you a one way ticket to a permanent ban?

That's if you ignore the rest of the baggage the Guy brought with him, the problem is due to the posts being cleaned up, it's difficult to see exactly what and how things were said and developed.

And so the campaign to make owning a fossil fuel car more expensive continues! Drivers face extra £50 to park now! :-k

These “nudges” are problematic. My view is that it is ok to provide direction but applying this to a retrospective action is unfair.
EG: From today, anyone that buys a diesel car and wants a residential permit will need to pay £xx.
That feels more reasonable, definitely arguable too, than what appears to have been imposed.
I wonder if there are any other benefits attached to the residential permit 🤔
I’m 7 years and 152k in the Tesla Model S and a big EV advocate but there are too many flaws appearing in the implementation of this next phase.

I feel the rule book on the cost of runnng a car wth respect to taxes/charges is going to be progressively re-written, already for example the introduction of parking charges based on emission level, the fact the Government is allowing each local authority to scale EV charging method/cost to suit itself, already some authorities have introduced a permit charge if you have to have a charging cable across the pavement and when the number of EV`s begins to outnumber fossil fuel cars watch tax levels one way or another begin to increase to claw back the tax losses made at that time. :-k

Pay per mile is on the horizon, to an extent I agree with the principle but it again needs to be done in an economically sensitive way…it won’t be.

The trouble with pay per mile is that at the present if you own a car the tax is based on the emission level and if you own a car you have to pay that appropriate tax for your car plus the fuel tax, the government is assured of that money irrespective of how much and how far you drive it, with pay per mile the motorist controls the cost of how much he uses his car and how far he drives it so will the government be happy being unable to calculate the expected taxable income from EV ownership as it is now. :-k

Lots of interesting opinions here.

As of three months ago, I'm 'Head of Application Technology' for a UK- based EV startup.

Company execs are all ex Bentley, Lotus, JLR, Rivian, McLaren, Fisker, Lucid. I'm sure I've missed some out.

We're in stealth mode prior to brand reveal. So no point asking me who my employer is.

Since being immersed in the EV industry I have 100% drunk the cool-aid.

But ask me to get rid of the RX? [edited] that 😁

Rivian has an interesting business model, still mainly US focused, though they did supply their prototype vehicles for Long Way Up, while funding and project managing the installation of a string of charging points from the tip of South America, all the way to the US boarder.

The TV series is a must see for anyone interested in EV cars or bikes, as Harley-Davison provided their preproduction EV machines for the journey .

I love new technology and in need of a new car 12 months ago of the 2 EV`s (both £50k) on my short list a Hyundai and a Volvo neither dealer had any stock I could look at or test drive and were quoting 12 month delivery and couldn`t tell me what the spec` would be in 12 months time.
At that time and still far too many negatives in my case for EV ownership. :-k

Did me a favour I bought a full equipped Cupra Formentor just under £40K and its brilliant. :thumleft:

Think it's Toyota who are working on a battery that will have a range of 900 miles. Cheaper lighter more powerful than current batterys.
That is a game changer.

The cost of running a diesel with extra parking etc etc is still going to outweigh the annual insurance premiums for EVs anyway at this rate.
