New here and looking for my first rotary. Ideally after a black PZ, so if anyone knows of a good one going let me know!

I’m no stranger to Mazdas as I daily a 2021 2.0 MX5 and I’ve owned and/or raced several mk1, mk2 and mk3 MX5s.

Nick

Hi and :welcome: Nick :D You've probably looked here already viewforum.php?f=145 (no black PZs in there, but I'll assume you're not writing off good alternatives).
Good luck with finding what you want anyway :thumleft:

Hi Nick,

You have come to the right place. Please consider joining as a full member for access to all areas and the massive amount of club knowledge and benefits such as the Workshop manuals if you intend to maintain yourself.

There is a good what to look for topic to aid in viewing on here, aswell as good info like oil 101. Plus our spin doctors are always happy to help.

Im not aware of any PZ in black but there is a couple of black R3s currently fairly priced. Again there is a thread on all the uprated elements of an R3. It was not just a facelift and if your budget allows would be a good option

Good luck with the search. Hope to see you in one and a member soon.

Regards,

Drew

:welcome: Hi Nick and welcome to the WWW, Whacky World of the Wankel

I too would suggest you also don't discount an R3 as the number of PZ's is dwindling. I don't own an R3, but having experienced several on track and I was impressed with the the suspension and handling wrt a stock S1. Add in the engine and many other enhancements, plus it's a younger car, it's worth thinking about.

Hi Nick, it's nice to see you've made it here from my last Instagram post! I just made a post about mine yesterday so feel free to drop any questions about it there: viewtopic.php?f=104&t=85661

There are a few PZ's in black on AutoTrader currently so feel free to ask any questions here too, rust is the biggest issue with these cars now imo:

Facebook marketplace looks to have some PZ's too but it's probably worth trying a few search terms of your own as I find it a bit of a horror show to navigate!

PS, nice R53 - Charlotte has an R52 S and they are great fun (although not the best to work on 😂)

The cheapest one of those PZs is 30 mins from me, but it seems expensive for the mileage with no mention of an specilist hsitory or a recent compression test.

I'll have a look on Marketplace, I agree it has about the worst search function ever invented.

As for R3s, don't shoot me, not a fan of the looks. I do appreciate they are probably a better car out of the box though.

What probably concerns me more is the multiple mentions of rust on the MOT's, it did take me a couple of months to find mine but it was worth the wait (more of a 'bargain' project than ready to go though 😂)

Having owned plenty of MX5s I know about rust. A lot of these era Mazdas get advisories for it when it's just the subframes and arms goign brown and flakey. Until you get underneath them and get tapping with rust finder you never really know.

I had a 2006 2.0 Sport MX5 I bought that had a good MOT history. It was cheap and I bought it unseen based off someone elses assesment. When I got it up on a ramp after getting it home it was a scrapper. The boot floor an sills were like cheese and all the engine bay hard pipes looked close to being dead as well. Luckily broke it for more than I paid for it.

I see Enjoyable Cars get a good rep on here, they're about 10 mins from where I work.

Ian is the guy who floats between Tim and Carl still these days and Carl can be found behind The Podium in Newbury.
