Lumpy tickover and stalls

Post by RX8telford »

Hi all, I’m new to the forum.
I have a 55 plate RX8 231 that is really lumpy on tick over when warm unless I hold the revs at 1500rpm. If I leave to idle it will stall this happens only when warmed up any ideas?
Thanks

First things first, clean your maf sensor and your eccentric shaft sensor then do a battery disconnect reset from cold, start the car and allow to idle up to temperature without touching the accelerator(about 20 minutes) if it doesn't improve then start looking at the ignition system and look for vacuum leaks. If you have a scanner you could look at the air fuel ratios and the long and short term fuel trims these could lead you to a vacuum leak if they are showing lean running. When were the coils, plugs and leads last replaced?

They should still be serviceable still then, start with the sensors and check for vacuum leaks as I already mentioned

Does the tick over get any smoother with the clutch pedal down?

If so, the neutral switch on the gearbox has an issue.

Does the tick over change with a/c off?

Failed engine mounts are the most common cause of shudder on tick over.

It's not uncommon for the engine mounts to collapse, this can cause the engine to move more uneven and more vibration than standard

a collasped mount shouldn't produce a stall though
my money is on a dirty MAF and an idle relearn required
