Hello, New owner here.

Post by Dan-T »

Hi fellow members.

So I’d always wanted to own an RX8 but it’s something I’d never got round to over the years.

Recently sold my Twingo 133 and wanted something fun with 4 doors and 4 seats…..it was finally time for an RX8.

I knew I wanted one with a few mods and a healthy engine and managed to find one that had a Rotary Revs Gold build with street port completed not so long ago, it also had been modded, maybe a bit more than I wanted but thought I could also remove what I didn’t want and for just over £2000 it seemed like a no brainier.

Seller seemed to be open and honest but even on the drive home I realised he really wasn’t.

So far I’ve found vibration at about 60mph which I’m sure is down to non hubcentric wheel spacers. Previous owner said he never drove the car at that speed so didn’t realise (got to love a bullshitter)

Also the steering is heavier to the right than it is to the left (previous owner said he also never noticed this, I just stopped communication at this point)

Also found today that the AEM filter has no dry sock on it which I was told it did.

I’m sure I’ll find more during lies my ownership.

All in all I am enjoying it so far, the noise it makes is unreal, it’s got a manifold, decat and cobra cat back with pops and bangs enabled.

Steering could just be that the universal joint needs greasing or a dirty electrical connector, if the car genuinely has a recent rebuild you still got a good deal, as you say spacers could cause the vibration, as could a flat spotted tyre or worn suspension items

Yea I’ve done the electrical connectors this afternoon doesn’t seem to have made a difference but I’ve not had it out for a drive yet.

Just need time to get the wheel spacers off and see if that’s the issue with the vibration, I’ve had enough cars over the years to recognise its a rotational imbalance, either wheel balance or spacers. Tyres are all fresh.

Hi.

I've got the same steering issue, I've been covering the UJ in lol and clead the electrical connectors but neither has made a difference.
I also had a vibration which turned out to be a caliper seizing up.

I’m hoping the steering is an easier fix than a new rack. Just wish the previous owner had been honest, I fully believe in karma though so it will come back around on him.

How do I post a picture of my car? I’m pretty sure people will know the car.

Sometimes adding grease to the UJ doesn't work as it doesn't find it's way into the bearings easily, I find spray grease is more effective as it is liquid to start with, a spray with WD 40 first can speed up the process

How easy is the UJ to get to?

Drivers wheel off, and you can reach it through the wheel arch access hole, just make sure the engines cold as your reaching in near the exhaust manifold(that's one reason why the UJ suffers because of the heat)

i would use diesel as an initial freeing agent as it penetrates easily and is a thin lubricant.

Yea the wheels are nice.

Few things I need to change, get the chrome grills and door handles off, also the front splitter is too low and the eye brows are just gash.

Completely agree. For my taste all chrome needs gone, the splitter and standard headlights back on aswell. Someone look to have put some red bits in. I used to run my PZ with the no plate on the front and just the Prodrive black grille set in it. The duck tail looks alright aswell in keeping witht the cars look.

It may have a few issues but it certainly looks the part! Are the Orange indicators intentional or just rusty?
