New R3 owner Hertfordshire

Post by rickya »

Hi everyone, just bought an R3 last week from Nick @ Enjoyable Autos, recommended dealer πŸ‘
Car was actually spotted for sale on here in November on a thread about Thurleigh Auction and previous owner was a member on RXOC Facebook page previously I believe.

I've been through over 20 cars over past 25 years and most of them Japanese sports cars and BMWs, including Litchfield Spec C's, Type Rs, S2000, 350z, TVRs, M3s V8s and 6 cylinder, lots of different Subarus etc and done quite a few track build project cars.

Always loved the design, high reving engine and chassis balance of the RX8 and especially like limited number cars, so the R3 fitted the bill perfectly for me. Wanted a small project to do, not going to be a track focused one as my last S2000, but more of weekend toy to keep me busy in my spare time.

The car came with 10 years Mazda main dealer service history and a further 2 years of private history. Immaculate service record, 69k miles and mechanically perfect, oil service done last week by Enjoyable Autos. It has wheel spacers 25mm and 30mm, Eibach lowering springs, Toyo catback exhaust, K&N panel filter and uprated ignition coils (cant tell what brand). Mods to do: swap to 20mm spacers all round, get Simply Dents out to pull out a couple of dings and touch up a few stone chips etc here and there, Satin chrome a few worn interior silver trim pieces, replace back seat base due to cigarette burn, fit AUX bluetooth audio, fit LED side light bulbs and 3m polish headlight glass, check alignment, eventually swop tyres to 235/40/19 MP4S or similar, fit new Mazda emblems, refurb steering wheel maybe, look for a better exhaust system, etc etc

Comments Welcome.. Ricky. 😎

Welcome and good choice of car :thumleft:

Just be aware that you may get pulled up come MOT time on LED sidelights. Mine have gone through fine 5 years straight, but a fussy tester might take issue with them.

Oil change as soon as you can unless the seller literally just did one.

Hope to see some pics at some point.

:welcome: to the forum! Like you, I've had a few different cars over the past 40+ years, including a Ford Escort MkII Mexico, Fiesta XR2 and lots of other boring cars too. I purchased my RX-8 new in 2004 and love the car so much she's stayed with me for 17 years and I've added two RX-7's to the fleet in the meantime :D

You may already be aware but, if not, details of a very recent fuel tank recall on the R3 model is posted up here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=84791

What is the problem with the LED`s - I have had them in for 13 years without MOT issues. :-k

Many thanks for the welcome! My friend runs his own garage / Mot test centre so should be all good with LED sidelights. Will look into whether it has had fuel tank recall, will have to phone Mazda for this most probably. BigPete thanks for the info, I need the nearside rear passenger seat base.

If you use the online MOT checker, it will show if there are any outstanding recalls: https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

When you do, check with the receptionist if you need to arrive with a quarter tank or less AND if they will brim the tank to check for leaks on completion - you will be billed for the fuel. This is essential, given a number of cars have been collected by owners and gushed with fuel when the tanks were filled! Not a good position to be in. On petrol forecourt with fuel running from under the car!

Ricky, firstly, a very warm welcome to the club (even if it's freezing outside!) =D>

Secondly, my apologies in advance. Alan, the Membership Secretary, is inundated with work at the moment and is behind with activating memberships and getting packs out. Rest assured, we will get there, but please be patient.

Sent a pm last week, but was basically asking if apart from the scratch, the seat is in good condition and what is the price delivered? Thanks
