What to do with my 231 RX8?
Hi All,
Just joined up, so thanks for having me!
I wanted your collective advice, as am picking up an RX8 in the next week or so, which I cant wait for, as it's in great condition. This is to replace and upgrade the existing 2005 RX8 231 PS that I currently own. This one was intended as a project car but work and life put paid to that idea, so I'm now cutting out the project to enjoy some driving now...well once the roads allow...
The dilemma I have is do i advertise and sell the RX8 cheaply to someone who can run with the project or do I butcher it for parts for future use and scrap what's left? It starts first time but has been off the road and SORNed for 4 years now so does need work and attention. It fired up first time of asking when i put a new battery on recently. The recent MoT failure list wasn't small but was well doable.
Not sure what to do, as want my drive way clear for the newer RX8, so thought that this would be the most sensible place to seek advice.
Look forward to your thoughts.
Thanks all.

is it a series i 231 you are buying? if so and it were me, i would at least keep your old one for a couple of months whilst you get used to your new one.

Thanks goodeggbob, it is a 2006 231, so yes, a series 1, unless I'm missing something. That's about the only comparable thing about the two cars though lol

it would be an awful shame to sell the old one for peanuts, only to find you need something in the coming weeks. if you have the room, keep it for a while.

Hi and Magsrx8 and sounds like good advice if you do have the space.

When you say the mot list is doable, how recent is it and what's involved? , it may help a prospective buyer.

Re: What to do with my 231 RX8?
I agree in principle goodeggbob but drive space is limited and to be honest, the one I'm picking up is in such good condition in comparison, that despite being rather cynical when it comes to rx8 reliability, I'm not expecting to need to butcher anything from the potential donor car for quite some time. Plus I like peanuts, so could be win win lol

Re: What to do with my 231 RX8?
Thanks Shagrington, I'd be comfortable with relative peanuts in order to free up the space for my new bad boy to sit proudly on my drive I'm thinking.

Re: What to do with my 231 RX8?
The car failed an MoT in early October having sat dormant for quite some time. Once I've got my hands on my new one, I'll post up the list of what needs doing, suffice to say coil springs, brakes binding, lambda, some corrosion, all need addressing

Re: What to do with my 231 RX8?
Ok, so I've picked up my new S1 and she's absolutely mint with really low mileage, which means that im going to look to get rid of the 'spare' S1 I have rather than use her for parts. Shes got a lifetime of use compared to the newer one so would prefer the drive space.
Should I sell as spares or sell as a complete project? She runs, starts ok, had ok compression results a few years back but has sat idle a for some time now has a list of work needed to pass an MoT.
Would appreciate your collective thoughts on how best to proceed?
Thanks.

When the round-trip route shows on my screen it's a figure 8, there and back.

Re: What to do with my 231 RX8?
So I've had my 2006 231 S1 for just over 3 weeks now and she's truly awesome. In super condition and only 10,589 miles on the clock when I collected her, she must a rarity?
I also have a 2005 231 S1 with 107K on the clock, which was originally intended as a project car but then life got in the way. I feel that any parts taken from this car would almost amount to abuse if fitted to my 'good' S1, so have decided to get rid.
Does anyone want a cheap donor car or require S1 parts? Am thinking I'll strip it down, remove the cat and sell what I can before scrapping what's left within the next month. Shes an MoT failure, does start but has been SORNed for a few years now, so anything I can raise will fund getting under sealing done on my 06 beauty.
Hit me up if you need parts, are interested in taking the car away or have any better ideas.
Cheers

I imagine Harry or Dan may be along soon. They like a good strip down project
