Prospective new old member
Hi,
I've just rejoined the forum, my name is Rich and I live in the East Midlands.
I used to have a blue 192 RX8 from new in 2004 and kept it for 2.5 years until regrettably it made way for something more frugal and way more boring (can remember shedding a tear when I saw it drive away on the back of a lorry).
Anyway I'm trying to get hold of another RX8 now but its a bit of a minefield on ebay and used car sites. I'm bidding for one at the minute without being sure how good the engine and bodywork are.
I've been humbled to see that there are still dedicated rotary garages out there run by enthusiasts keeping these cars going. If there really are only about 2,000 of these left on the road then I'm more determined than ever to have one and keep it this time.
Obviously you can pick one up cheap but if its structurally ok then I'm less worried if it needs work to the engine. The insurance is cheap but don't imagine any firms would be interested in paying out. Just wish the road tax was £340 for all of them, there are some pre-2006s out there but I dont know if I'm making it hard for myself by ruling out the £600 ved ones.
Anyway enough rambling from me. Wish me luck in getting hold of one!
Rich

Hi! thanks for the welcome.
I'm gutted because there is a gorgeous blue 192 on ebay which looks structurally sound and only 46k on the clock but someone private keep outbidding me and now its over £2.5k... I'll keep looking.

Probably his friend running it up for more money. I never put anything on till just before at the max I want to pay. If you win all good, if you auto outbid then you haven't had auction fever.

Re: Prospective new old member
Also there is an RX8 UK classifieds with a few cheap ones on. There is a blue R3 up for 4500 with some extra bits. I am tempted for myself as a track car. Just don't know where it would live....

Re: Prospective new old member
May well be his friend. I messaged the seller (not to grumble, just to pull out) and he's had a few 'dreamers' in the past which has caused him to relist stuff. If the buyer doesn't come forward he's letting me know. If he does then great but I'm not losing sleep over it. The R3 does look nice but I'm on a budget... I've got an everyday car but want an RX to keep and enjoy all its quirks!

Re: Prospective new old member
Well the winning bidder never turned up so I got the car in the end 2004 192ps winning blue and black leather just like the one I had new in 2004. Its going to Rotary Revs on Thursday for a master service reset, compression test and health-check. Hopefully its ok underneath. The seller included some suspension coils he never got round to fitting. I've paid to rejoin as a full member of the rx8 owners club - hopefully see some of you soon.RichT_Derby wrote: ↑Thu Sep 16, 2021 9:52 amHi! thanks for the welcome.

Re: Prospective new old member
Fingers crossed! I'm glad these specialist places exist to keep these cars going as long as possible. I wouldn't take an RX to an independent garage or even Mazda themselves.
