New here from Ireland

Post by Volmars »

Hi all!

Greeting from Ireland (South).
Very similar to Martinpp, I've been wanting and looking for an PZ for quite some time.
With little money to spend I finally picked up one in the UK (obviously! where else were they sold) at a rock bottom price, unseen.

Info:
2007 73k Cat D, It's black, paint work is in decent condition, starts first go (hot and cold) and it appears to be driving ok.

I began soon minor maintenance:
- oil change
- knocked the cat out (it was blocked and making the seat rails rather hot)
- got it up on a ramp and oh dear...

2021 Project:
a) Rust - replace sills, patch work around arches and tidy up the subframe
b) Exhaust - with the cat removed there is still significant heat on the seat rails. Pulled about 4ft of hair from the exhaust so reckon the muffler/silencer is bust. Strong small of petrol too from the rear
c) The Big ouch! - both rear coil springs cracked. Need to a whole heap of web searching to find replacements.
If anyone here has thoughts on replacement options it would be much appreciated e.g.
- could I get normal Eilbach RX8 springs and hope they "do the job"
- would Prodrive give advise on where to source a replica pair (the 60% extra stiffness)?
d) Recondition the alloys

2022 Project:
Sort out the mechanicals
a) Overhaul ignition system and likely Engine rebuild
b) Enjoy it

Looking forward to learning more here and moving forward with my project. This car is a keeper.

Cheers.
V

Best solution for the suspension is to replace it all with Tein coilovers.

There is a mention of surplus pz springs in a recent thread about pz suspension for sale if that helps, welcome to the club, rob.

Welcome to the club,it’s a great place to be.
I think you need to find pz springs as this was one of the main differences,if you put something else on it become the same as all the rest.,rust is starting to be the main killer of the rx8.

Thanks guys!
My journey begins.

Feeling the pinch at the pumps already. As great as the rev limiter beep is in 1st, 2nd and 3rd.... not sure it should be an every journey occurrence.

Quick and last question before I jump into the main forum: For the sills should I go straight to Mazda or would generic supplier suffice e.g.
https://easyparts.online/mazda-rx8-full ... anel-right
I don't want to rely on my local body shop knowing where to source decent parts.

I believe those panels on easyparts are what most seem to source. They're from Poland although many seem to get them through their eBay store here. Seem to work well as many have used them with no issues :thumleft:

Wow A buddy of mine also from Carlow used to have an 8,absolutely gorgeous one with amazing upgrades on it like a BBK,long tube header, ported rebuild,Oz wheels but he got out of the rotary game ( as did I ) and he ended up selling it to Ben in Rotary Revs in the UK who sold it on to someone else.Really was one of the best S1's anywhere. His build thread is still on here I think, you have to be a fully paid up member to access it though
